A lovely setting for a winery. Although do not be mislead dispite the variety of wines they offer they only have one estate wine. The wine tasting was the oddest I have ever been to. You choose the wines you want and pay 50 cents per "shot"... As the wine is poured into a little plastic shot cup. The staff poured all the wines and placed them in a line. I had no idea what I was tasting. She. Poured and left. She provided no information about the wine, where the grapes were from, how long was it barreled...and in what... Nothing.... I had to ask her what she poured. I am not sure if the owner does not trust his staff to pour correct amounts or if they do not want to have to wash sample glasses but it was so very poorly done. I am not a wine snob by any means... But it was by no means a wine tasting. It is really a shame, with the right person pouring their wines I bet they could double their sales...because their wines are fairly solid at their price point. Their red blend, merlot, and sangiovesse were really enjoyable medium to full bodied dry red wines. If you are expecting a wine tasting experience you will not have that... But even with that said... It is still...
Read moreMy opinion is based on a Harvest Host experience. My husband and I, on our way to Mount Rushmore, stayed a night at the winery with our fifth wheel. Let me start by saying we did not expect the place to be that nice. We arrived on a Friday night, there was live music, nice ambiance, family oriented crowd, a food truck. They have a great selection of wine AND beer. I’m not a wine person, but my husband ordered one that tasted a lot like a wine we drink in Brazil. It was a pleasant evening. There was even a couple in their 60’s dancing in the gazebo to the live music... fire pits all over the place was an amazing touch ;-)
The parking space for our fifth wheel was very good. Boondocking, but hey, it’s free! Gravel, no mud; amazing view of open sky and the corn field on the background. We saw a fox and deers. They do have poles with light that turns on at night. Actually very quiet even for a Friday night.
Gentleman that showed us our site was very polite and friendly. Overall, would definitely visit again!
Ps: views of sunset and moonrise available at...
Read moreMy friends and I were really looking forward to visiting this winery, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t meet expectations. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, and the chips that came with it were extremely stale. When we kindly asked for a fresh batch, the woman behind the counter responded with “chips are supposed to be hard” proceeded to roll her eyes which felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. Not to mention, the cheese tray was simply a prepackaged assortment of sliced cheese that was just handed to us with a paper plate. For a winery, we expected something a bit more curated and presentable. The wine also had a limited selection.
The outdoor area, which could have offered a pleasant setting, looked run down and uncared for. While the season may be a factor, it came across more as neglect than seasonal wear.
Customer service, food presentation, and atmosphere are such important parts of the winery experience—and unfortunately, all three missed the mark. A bit more attention to hospitality and upkeep could...
