Small but unique park built around an old limestone quarry. Great for a stroll, bike ride, or jog. The main trails are all short loop trails that are wide and easy to navigate. There are a number of smaller, rougher trails to explore if you are feeling more adventurous. The quarry itself is an interesting place to explore. Lots of birds and flora to see. If you want to poke around in the quarry or the smaller trails, I recommend hiking or trail shoes with a little more padding and tread. I typically wear barefoot style, thin soled running shoes and while great for groomed/smooth packed trails, they aren't ideal for the rocks, tree roots and branches of the quarry itself or the smaller trails. The main building at the park is clean, easy to access, and offers a bit of history about the area for those interested in spending a few minutes to read up on the quarry's history. I've visited the park at least three times this year and sometimes I'm the only visitor. Get out there and...

This is a nice place to explore. I almost always see plenty of wildlife. There is no playground for children, but several nature trail give you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. If you take the main trail, which is crushed stone, to the primitive trail called the Wet Woodlands Trail, this will take you to the Quarry Rim trail, the Rim trail will bring you back to the start of the main trail. The whole hike will be 1.1 miles. Just as a note the Wet Woodlands and the Quarry Rim trail are primitive with hill, large rocks, and roots; watch your...

We have a unique and beautiful adventure every time we visit and love that there usually arent many people there, too. We saw beautiful wildflowers, frogs, a garter snake, tadpoles, dragonflies, bluejays, cardinals, cowbirds, red winged blackbirds, and woodpeckers, and several chipmunks. It was nice to get some sun while hiking. It's not a long hike, and not a clear path but that's a part of its charm - it's more than an exploration experience. The little information center is cool, too and has...

This park has a rugged, wild feel that makes it perfect for little explorers. There's a great mix of wide nature trails and fun, off-the-path adventures down in the old quarry. My kids love coming here—they're always hunting for cool rocks, climbing anything they can, and imagining they're on some big adventure. In the fall, the colors are absolutely beautiful. And if you catch it at sunset? Even better. It's one of those places that makes you feel like you're really in nature, not just walking through it.

The Sawyer Quarry Nature Preserve is truly a place like no other. When you take a walk down into the Quarry, it feels like you have entered a nature exhibit. It is truly beautiful and peaceful to take a walk throughout the Quarry. If the Quarry is not of interest to you, there are also plenty of other marked trails that are very enjoyable to walk through. Finally, this nature preserve also allows visitors the opportunity to sign up for rock climbing or repelling.
