We love traveling to free and off the beaten path things..Smolen Gulf bridge is currently the world's largest covered bridge. It is part of Ashtabula covered bridge tour. You can walk or drive across it. There are plenty of areas for pictures. There is a parking area with a pavilion that has display of local history and the trails you can walk or bike from there. They are currently doing a lot of work to the park and trails to improve it! You can also walk along river bank and picnic or look at the geological formations that show northeast Ohio, shale and sandstone with mixtures of granite mixed throughout. There is a historical Indian trail along the river as well. This is a great spot for individuals, couples or families with kids of all ages. It is pet friendly as well. Read moreThe perfect place to eat lunch in a beautiful well maintained Park atmosphere. The park maintenance people do a remarkable job of keeping it litter and vandalism free. The paved trail is quite and shady, offering park benches where you can sit down and relax. There are many side trails leading to the Ashtabula River, for the fisherman, or anyone who just wants to experience the beauty of the river close up. The covered bridge spanning the park is the longest covered bridge in the world, just a hop skip and a jump away in Geneva, Is the shortest covered bridge in the world. There are places you could easily launch a kayak, or canoe into the river. Read moreWhen we set out to visit this bridge on a beautiful, sunny, Autumn day we didn't realise that there was a park surrounding it. What a nice surprise that was! There are relatively flat, paved paths for leisurely hiking, plus picnic spots and plenty of room to walk along the Ashtabula River, which is pretty shallow in this area. Local families visit, plus people come from far and wide, because this bridge holds the renown of being the longest covered bridge in America. We met one fellow there to picnic with his family and to do some fishing. We both had our puppies too.
