We stayed here early August 2013. We never been in this area of the state and decided on a whim to stay at this state park. The park in full of trees and green grass. The park and facilities were clean and well kept. We arrived Sunday afternoon and found an unreserved spot for the night. The other three or four spots were taken soon after and we saw one RV leave after finding the camp full.
The camping sites are next to each other but not stacked on each other. There was some space in between the sites and offered more privacy (your space). The tent's have to be placed on the designated sand pad and the picnic tables are bolted to the asphalt. Behind the sites in the center island there is a large community grass field for the kids etc to run around and there was a volleyball net set up.
There is a nice big playground that the kids really enjoyed. The swim area is small in size and consist of some beach sand with the majority small rocks. Also there are no trees next to the swim area to offer shade and no outdoor showers to rinse off the kids.
Over all it was a nice and quite place to stay. One review I read said it was a jewel. Well a jewel in a the sense that it is all green and has grass and trees. Our stay was fine but we found better places...
Read moreMy family has been coming to Bridgeport for at least 30 years... what once was a wonderfully maintained park under the watchful eye of Scotty, is now less than mediocre. Upon arrival, we were extremely disappointed to see that the grass was very long, so long that we couldn't play any of our lawn games we brought for entertainment. After almost two days the grass was finally cut so we could enjoy the large grass area behind out site. During our 5 day stay, the park employees worked day and night, one night stopping at close to 7:30. During dinner hours we enjoyed the magical sounds of tractors, lawn mowers, and weed-eaters. We were also thrilled when they were "mowing" dirt and the wind was blowing it directly into our camp and faces.
We did have a chance to speak to a few of the park employees, they let us know they are short handed and are now required to work around the clock to maintain the grounds. As I do feel for them, the parks department should be dispatching employees out to help!
Although our trip wasn't as relaxing as we had anticipated, the boat launch was very clean and docks were well kept. Fishing was good and water was clear. All of our fellow campers, park employees, and tribal police were extremely friendly- which made all of the...
Read moreThis park is easy to find, near Chief Joseph Dam not far from Hwy 17 near the town of Bridgeport. It is right beside a golf course and is on the shore of Rufus Woods Lake that is part of the Columbia River. There is a large parking area near the boat launch with lots of room for boat trailers and trucks. The area is hot and dry in summer but there are some nice big trees for shade and irrigated grass. Nice playground, beach with grass, sand, gravel and rocks. Interesting rock formations called “Haystacks” are found all around the park. The showers require to quarters 50 cents for 3 min. The sites are level but there is no privacy due to a lack of bushes or undergrowth. All the sites a located well back from the water front with no lakeside or view sites. Just green grass, pavement and gravel under the scattered trees. Sites have either no services or power & water. Dump station available at campground. This is a...
