I used to love this place, well I still do but .....these are not the worst of things, just a few photos. Stinchcomb is a great nature fix in the city. Unfortunately it is not going to be for much longer. It has restrictions such as no motorized vehicles, no hunting, fires, etc, that are ignored and no one does anything about it. My husband and I have many times come up on kids partying or we have finished putting out a smoldering log, or have told dirt bike riders to leave. We have called 911, but no action taken. There is a bar style locked gate at the entrance to keep vehicles out and it has a padlock on it. If a fire gets out of hand or someone is hurt or threatened, the worst result will be what takes place because when you do call someone they are usually unfamiliar with the area and send no assistance. (I say this from experience first hand), I realize it is most likely City of OKC responsibility, but I have and will continue to reach out in hopes someone will care enough to help find a solution to better the situation at Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge at the edges of Bethany, OKC. We pick up trash when we walk but its getting out of hand from the partying and so forth going on. If someone would just patrol a bit on weekends it would likely make an incredible difference. The guys in this photos were there recently on 01/14/18, the one on the red bike was argumentative, and told not to behave like a dumbass, his remark was " I'm, a dumbass with money ", I guess he felt that gave him the right to ignore rules, laws and respectfulness. These guys were all old enough to be bearded,...
Read moreStinchcomb doesn't feel like much at first impression, after driving down a little side road and finding a little empty parking lot, it looks like you can really only explore a small area and that's the end of it - this is the furthest from the truth. There's so much to see and do, from renting a kayak at Overholser and kayaking through Stinchcomb to wandering through the woods, foraging for mushrooms and berries - every time we come, we find something new to discover. I love seeing the wooden shelters that have been constructed from downed branches, I love finding giant jelly ear mushrooms to take home and cook, I love the geocache hunting, the wildlife spotting, everything this great area has to offer and you'd never even realize you were still in the city. Highly recommend, and don't give up after a few minutes of wandering - bring a picnic and make an...
Read moreThe East Trail is officially my new favorite trail within the city. Butterflies, birds, and insects abound on this trail! There is a lovely amount of shade throughout. I even found a tree along the trail that butterflies LOVE. On multiple visits now, there have been dozens of different species of butterflies flying all around the upper limbs of the tree. If you would like to find it, pay attention to the right side of the trail while walking out and it's roughly a mile in. The only downside is that you can't walk the whole trail due to the last section being way...
