Atmosphere: Stepping into the Rendezvous at Fort Washita feels like stepping straight back into the 1800s. The historic grounds, lined with weathered stone walls and open fields, come alive with the sounds of crackling campfires, traditional music, and the low hum of storytelling. Participants and visitors alike fully embrace the spirit of the era, with authentic clothing, camps, and demonstrations spread across the fort’s beautiful and rugged landscape.

Experience: The Rendezvous is a celebration of the old frontier lifestyle — showcasing blacksmithing, leatherworking, open-fire cooking, and traditional crafts. Walking from camp to camp, you’ll find traders offering handmade goods, skilled reenactors demonstrating survival techniques, and plenty of opportunities to try your hand at old-world skills. The attention to historical accuracy is impressive, but what really stands out is the friendliness of the people. Everyone is eager to share the history, culture, and their passion for the time period.

Family-Friendliness: This event is absolutely family-friendly. Kids are encouraged to explore, learn, and even dress up if they want. There are activities for all ages, and plenty of hands-on learning moments that make history feel real and exciting rather than something you just read about. Whether it’s watching musket firing demonstrations or trying traditional crafts, there’s something to captivate every age group.

Vendors and Food: The traders and vendors at the Rendezvous offer everything from homemade soaps and hand-forged knives to leather goods and traditional clothing. Food options usually stick close to historical styles — think hearty stews, cornbread, and campfire-cooked meals — but some modern conveniences (like bottled water and simple snacks) are available for visitors.

Overall: The Fort Washita Rendezvous is an unforgettable experience — part living history, part outdoor festival. It’s the kind of event where you leave not only entertained but also deeply connected to the past. Whether you’re a history buff, an adventurer, or just someone looking for a unique outing, the Rendezvous is absolutely...

I've been going to Fort Washita since I was a little kid you should definitely try and catch the spring rendezvous in March great place to grab some Pioneer souvenirs. You can find professionally tan hides even some awesome homemade root beer. Incredible variety of handcrafted leather and beaded materials as well want to learn how to shoot a musket this is the place to go want to see Confederate gravesites and pre Civil War structures they got it. There's all kinds of great activities related to the time period of the original Fort Washita that are scheduled there but even on a day when it's completely empty it's still a good place to go for a Saturday...

I've been going to Fort Washita since I was in H.S. This site is so full of information and interesting historical artifacts. There is definitely a lot of walking but if you visit during a time when there aren't any events you can have the entire place to yourself. If you ask the staff they'll unlock the cabin and let you walk inside. Its a great place to take a day trip. You'll want to fill up your gas tank before you go as there aren't any gas stations close. The bathrooms on site are clean. The ruins are beautiful and fun to walk through. My boys love going to Fort Washita. The Rendezvous Days are...

Ok so it was great! but I do have a recommendation that you use horse drawn carriages to move the groups instead of walking. As well I couldn't get any pictures bc flashes constantly went off at the cemetary with no consideration for others I suggest you let ppl take turns to take 2 or 3 photos one at a time to cut down on light refraction. See refracted pictures below just couldn't see anything with 10 different flash interruptions at a time.

Amazing place that has a lot of great history. Please become a volunteer if you can! Come out and bring your kids and grandkids! Free admission & free parking. The Fort hosts a bunch of events throughout the year. Join the Facebook page to keep up on events! Don't miss Ghost Tours in October. There are also War reinactments. Civil War as well as World War l and ll.
