We love Sequoyah Bay State Park but are very disappointed in the new system/policy to make reservations.
A lot of elderly that camp aren't very acquainted with the internet or how to use it. Changing group camping and not having camp sites ready or tent sites available before a major holiday weekend left us scrambling to find a new camp area when we had a large group and several campers coming, some coming from out of state. Our normal camping group ended up split up in 2 different cities/camp grounds.
I feel like Sequoyah STATE park is taking funding for their park and treating Sequoyah Bay like the park they don't want to take care of because its not in their actual park.
Luckily our group found a new park and lake that we really loved staying at and the camp hosts were very nice and welcoming, just wished our entire group could have been there instead of being stuck at the River which split up our tradition and group.
Sequoyah Bay camp host and workers were polite and welcoming but had to follow the State parks and park rangers policies. We were understanding of that.
The lady that answers the phone in the main office was very rude and hateful not only to us but to people she was answering the phone to while we were there asking questions about camp. She acted as if she hated her job or was sick of answering the same questions.
I'll never give our business to the STATE park but I'm sure at some point we will try Sequoyah Bay again but closing off our group camp to line up campers in rows might not be what we are...

When I arrived on Saturday morning at the main shelter area, that I paid $50 to use for the day for a family gathering, I was really disappointed. The entire shelter, including the picnic tables were covered in spider webs. We had to go buy a water hose just to clean it up and to be able to use it before our event started. Every last table was covered in spider webs and yes, I know that this can happen because it's an outside venue, but being that I made this reservation and paid a fee, you could have made sure it was usable without us having to clean it. I wished I had pictures, but it looked like it had not been used for months. I would also recommend getting a playground area for families with kids. There was nothing for the little ones to do there. We will be finding a more cleaner, kid friendly venue for our next...
Read moreMy dog and I took a drive out to this state park earlier today, and ee had a lovely time . It was not busy/crowded. My border collie was able to run about (considering being well behaved) she stayed pretty close; yet was still able to get away, enough to feel like she had complete freedom to do as she pleased. (Much needed break from fenced in yards and leashes). I was also able to comfortably throw her frisbee at further distances compared to other parks and places. Being there were only a few people total come through, throughout the day; my babygirl was able to stay focused and on point while draining her energizer-bunny battery. I enjoy looking at rocks and collecting various varieties. There are a lot of rocks out there all along the beachy shoreline.. I love that it is sandy too. Twas my first time visiting this state park, and dog and I had a great time! I would indeed recommend this park to a friend or actually anyone. It was a very relaxing, peaceful, and...
