So just putting this out there… I definitely don’t recommend camping at Sequoyah state park. Before I made our reservations I called and ask the person at the park office if we could use all amenities including the pool and splash pad and I was assured we could. Fast forward to last week I seen someone mention on here that they weren’t able to use it because they were campers so I tried calling the park office all last week and no one would answer so I called the lodge. The first person told me yes on week days and only yes on weekends when they’re under 70% capacity THEN another person told me definitely no. This was all on Saturday when I was trying to find the right info as well as calling the park office with no answer. So late Saturday night I went ahead and canceled our online reservation. I’ve been trying to call the park office all this morning and FINALLY a lady answered. I was calling to make sure I would get my full refund back because I didn’t get a cancel confirmation until Sunday. So a lady answered, pretty rude by the way, and tells me that their system shows that I canceled on Sunday so I won’t be getting a full refund and that it wasn’t their problem that no one would answer the phone. She told me that they’re not always in the office and that they were having phone trouble last week. BUT even though I got wrong info from THEM and they would never answer the phone that it’s not their fault I can’t get a full refund. Won’t ever be booking here again! Just putting this out there for people wanting to camp there. In my opinion if you are advertising these amenities on your camping page then you should be able to use it and the people that work for the campground need to be more knowledgeable about the park information! If I could give NO...
Read moreI am normally a huge fan of state parks and this one offers a lot to do in one park. The perks I really appreciate are the number of trails, campsites by the lake; I like that the local girlscout troop found a way to recycle satellite dishes and made a truly magical place for kids to enjoy. However, the one thing that just baffled me and put a huge storm cloud over my weekend (aside from the ACTUAL storm that hit when we arrived to our campsite) is the ONE working bathroom stall per gender for an ENTIRE RV park to share - out of 79 possible campsites that mix primitive sites with guests of the rented lodge that can party with a crowd of around 30-50 additional people (which was exactly the scenario of our stay) - you are allowed only 1 stall for a female and 1 urinal for a male + 1 stall. On the Saturday night we stayed, there was a line for both bathrooms- and what would have happened if that ONE stall got stopped up? The facilities are present, but blocked off with signage. With the amount of traffic that this park sees, it's appalling and unforgivable that they are not maintained or available to the public as well as their availability being misleading on the RV map (which is how I make my campsite selections). Upon returning to the bathroom to take a pic of the signage, another female patron informed me that the 1 stall situation existed back in Feb when she came out - so this is a known issue. Otherwise, this park would have...
Read moreCampground and playground were clean and easy to find. Everything including the hiking trails are very well marked. Maps are freely available and accurate.
Many RV spots had concrete pads, but very few were level. While we were there, the lake was flooding and our campsite became uninhabitable. Camp staff did not warn us of the danger, but they were happy to relocate us when we informed them our site was half underwater. I'm glad we set up on the other half!
Nature center was a lot of fun. They do programs at different times of day with snakes and otters and such. My kids found a recently dead snake outside in the grass and the park ranger allowed us to feed it to the king snake inside. It was fantastic to watch.
Hiking trails are well marked and quite easy for most trails. There is even a handicap accessible trail. Daily horseback riding is offered.
Fishing was good. We chose our camping spot because it had a dock next to it. The dock was up on floats, but unfortunately the ramp was not. So the ramp was underwater and we couldn't access the dock.
As a hiker/camper I don't think I'll ever come back to this campground. But if I was a boater or golfer I suspect I would have loved it here. The lake is huge and so is the golf course. Unfortunately, I didn't come for...
