"Three Sticks" was built by the people of southeastern Oklahoma to honor Senator Robert Kerr (1896-1963). Kerr served as the 12th Governor of Oklahoma, 1943-1947 and then US Senator from Oklahoma, 1949-1963. This spot is a peak in the Ouachita Mountains and has a fabulous view.

Senator Kerr's book, "Land, Wood, and Water" that was titled after a lesson his father has told him, "To raise a family, you have to have three things – land, wood and water." And these three sticks represent those three things.

Senator Kerr wanted to encourage tourism and development in SE Oklahoma and was key in improving dirt roads, connecting local roads, and building new connecting roads that resulted in this road, US 259.

Home in Oklahoma. It was not my first visit to this historic site. But visiting again was a heartwarming delight. 💕 Hwy 259 Southeast Oklahoma is one beautiful drive. 😍 The foothills of this region are #mountainous ⛰️ 😳, but just a foot shy of mountain's, thus why they're referred to as #Foothills. If you're ever in the area, drive up Hwy. 259 in either direction. Mountains ⛰️ get bigger when you cross over the Arkansas State line . Wilmena ⛰️ 🌄 🏔 into the neighboring NATURAL STATE, IS all home to me. Great visit to my old stomping grounds.

We had always passed by this, but never knew what it was. We finally had time to stop by it, and it's rather interesting. A star formation base has three large sticks coming out of it representing Land, Water & Wood. There was a lot of trash scattered about and tons of empty bottles/can down the road next to it going up the hill. We thought it might lead to another overlook, but it didn't. Once on it for about a mile, our GPS showed that it went on for a really long time and it's a rather narrow dirt road. I would advise against just "exploring" down it! Cool thing to see and read about though, along with an...

Holy cannoli what trip this was. after getting our trailer filled with refrigerated chicken, my dad wanted to avoid construction and traffic and took this way, and can I tell you it was hard. At most our mph was around 30 disregarding a few exceptions where we weren't going up hill, at some points it would feel we were losing too much speed and start going backwards. Once we visited this, it was beautiful, I do have to say it looks trashy, but the view just makes up for it. Our way down was also pretty scary. I took some photos of the view, I'm not a cameraman so don't complain haha. (:
