I made an impromptu visit on my way back to Delaware from a fishing trip off the Jersey shore. Looking for some fresh produce to accompany my catch, I made a stop for gas along 295, googled "organic" and found DanLynn Farms. I pulled up into the driveway and was immediately greeted by their poodle, Willy, who is as friendly as he is large. Also roaming about were their many chickens and an equally friendly (and quite entertaining) goat.
I found the owners, Dan and Lynn Lenco, putting together cases of Roma tomatoes in their barn. They took the time out of their work to show me the currently available farm fresh produce and answer all my questions, and when I asked if they had any fresh herbs, Dan made a quick trip on his golf cart and came back with huge bouquets of basil and thyme at the cost of a tenth of what the local Acme would have charged me. I also left there with some terrific Roma tomatoes, crisp green bell peppers, buttery fingerling potatoes, and some variety of cherry tomatoes (sun gold?) that were the sweetest I've ever had, and they were more than fair with their prices.
These are good people doing great things with their farm. I will definitely make a point of returning the next time I am...
