We booked the 3.5 hour Extended Back Country tour and it was perfect for us. It was me, my boyfriend and my Dad who is 77 & a photographer. Our guide was on time right at 830am at The View Hotel pick up point, and had my name in her device, so it was easy to know that we belonged with her.

Temps & Vehicle: Our tour was March 29th and we ended up in an open air vehicle on a somewhat chilly morning, but in the end we were all so happy we had the open vehicle b/c it made the experience that much more adventurous. The vehicle seats 9 and we were a group of 8, so it was a very nice, small size. Morning temps were in the 40s, but as the tour went on it rose to about 60 and sunny, so it was great.

Tour & Guide: Our tour guide was Sandrea and she was lovely with us and had 3 heavy blankets in her truck, so we were plenty warm in the open air vehicle. We spent a generous amount of time at our stops and she would give us the history and importance of each site, the native names and any related Navajo beliefs, stories, traditions and customs. And we had plenty of time to snap photos and explore around at each stop, even though she said it "wasn't the photographer's tour" - to us, it felt like we had plenty of time!! We got to go inside a Hogan and see a wool making demonstration, which was amazing. Sandrea sang 2 songs for us along the trip, and her nephew (a fellow tour guide with this same company) played the flute for us, all of which was truly a beautiful and rare thing to experience.

We made a stop at a little gift shop & snack shop - all Navajo owned - and got to try some fry bread and get some hot chocolate.

Sandrea also told us that during the summer months, all the tours can be super crowded and each spot may have 100 people or so every time you stop! We were SO GLAD we were there before the busy season, as it was just our group of 8 and her nephew's group of 8, but otherwise, we had the park to ourselves. It was truly incredible!

We are so glad we booked the 3.5 hour tour vs. the shorter one or doing it in our own vehicle. There is truly SO MUCH to see in the Valley and you learn so much with a Navajo Guide like Sandrea!! Highly recommend this family owned tour company and going off-season!

I'm not including photos because all the ones on here are exactly as beautiful as it is in real life!...

For my mother's birthday we decided to do something new and adventurous and chose the Stargazing Tour. Unfortunately where we live on the East Coast our skies are filled with light pollution so we can never truly have a stargazing experience. This tour filled our dreams and so much more. Since we traveled during off-season (April), it was just Cheryl, my mom and I out in the park at night which was even more special. We got to take our time asking questions and exploring the park uninterrupted by others. We had the greatest tour guide, Cheryl, who literally felt like family to my mom and I. She showed us how to take National Geographic worthy photos on our iphones, taking us to various sites throughout the park. Shared personal anecdotes, cultural experiences, history of the native people and so much more. She truly made the trip amazing for my mom and I and will be the main reason why I return back to the area. I would highly recommend having Cheryl as your tour guide and checking out this once in a lifetime tour. If Cheryl was this amazing, I can only imagine what the other guides are like. Would highly recommend booking with this company. Please note, this tour happens at night and the desert gets very cold. Although this is not a hiking tour, you will spend an extended amount of time outside of the vehicle.

I also completed the Sunrise tour the following morning which was a rough wake up turn around on my part but worth it in the end. The sunrise tour was just as great and did not feel like a repeat of information. I would highly recommend both tours because you're able to see the park at two very different perspectives. Due to the time of the Sunrise Tour and the time of year we traveled (April), it felt as though we had the entire park to ourselves. As we were leaving, we began to see vans and trucks entering with groups. Although it's early, it's so worth beating the crowds. Jameson was a great tour guide with a wealth...

We booked this tour a few weeks ago and arrived at Monument valley on 03/30/24. It happened to be a very windy day. We met the tour operator and they gave us three options. She said we could move the tour to a later date (which was not possible for us as we were leaving the next day), a full refund or go on the tour in an enclosed vehicle. She told us that we may not experience everything due to the wind. We were okay with that. Since we were leaving the next day we decided to take the tour. As soon as we told her that we would like to go on the same day, her expression, tone and voice changed. In the past 16 years of having gone to various tourist destinations across U.S, I have never experienced such disgusting behavior from any tour guide. Cheryl was very rude and practically shouting at us as soon as we got into the vehicle. She said she would not get down anywhere and we said that was fine. She continued her frantic shouting as we moved and then I told her that there was no need for her to be so rude. At this point the shouting stopped. I am sure this tour must be great but this tour guide - Cheryl was horrible. She ruined our tour because of her demeanor. We got out at the points she stopped and we took photos on our own. She never mentioned any good photo points as others have mentioned in the reviews.

She told us that the wind is actually good in their culture and that it brings about new seeds and helps with new growth. At one point we got out and our teen was in the vehicle. She then turned to tell him the wind is bad for you and it messes up your mind. She had no business of saying that. I wish I could give this a zero star but there is no such option.

When we were on the tour we saw other tour companies and their guides getting down with them and explaining things. The wind was not affecting any of them. I wish we had taken another tour company or we had a different...

This was my first time on a sunset tour, having taken a sunrise tour with Goulding before in 2018; and found this tour does really measure up to the expectations of going into the backcountry and exploring parts of the park that private car owners can’t access. I have no trouble getting tickets online a day before (on a weekday) and the checkin process was simple and straightforward. They do opt for closed vans when the weather in under 50F and it was a cold snowy kind of day. Our guide Cheryl was cheerful and knowledgeable, although we had more fun interacting with our fellow tour passenger. However she could work on their communication style and information content a bit as there was time the information shared was not relevant to the tour and seemed like it was going on a tangent with long monologues. There was a point in the trip where she started admonishing the kids from the other family and went on and on about how kids in their culture respect their elders and stop talking when elders speak. The family’s adults took the higher ground and did not respond and instead chose to police their kids to keep the peace. That moment got very tense and awkward and really wasn’t required. The tour was a bit quieter and awkward after that. She could flex and adapt to the tour folks a bit in my opinion, and generally not go about policing other people’s kids. Overall made some really good stops, learned a lot more about the valley and the people and the history, took some photos and Cheryl was happy to take photos for the group — would recommend them if they do work on their guide training.

An unforgettable experience — thanks Larry! We had the absolute privilege of doing a full-day tour through Monument Valley and Mystery Valley in March, and it was hands down one of the highlights of our entire USA trip. A massive shoutout to our incredible guide, Larry from @monumentvalleytribaltours — you were nothing short of legendary! Larry’s knowledge, passion, and storytelling brought the land to life in a way that was deeply moving and respectful to the Navajo culture. He took us to places not accessible to the general public, shared traditional stories passed through generations, and made us feel connected to the land and its history. Plus, his sense of humour and down-to-earth nature made the entire experience fun, relaxed, and unforgettable. The photo opportunities were next level, and Larry knew all the best angles and spots. If you’re heading to Monument Valley — don’t even think about doing it without a guide like Larry. You’ll walk away with more than just amazing photos; you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the sacred land you're walking on. Thank you Larry and Monument Valley Tribal Tours — 10/10, would do it again in a heartbeat!
