This has long been one of my favorite parks in Olympia WA. It's got a wonderful beach that goes for miles. You can always find lots of ducks and some osprey chirping about. The park is filled with lots and lots of trees and they have a playground for the kids. There's so many picnic areas that I don't think that I can count them all. There's also some nature trails to walk and several covered spots if you're planning a family get together, it's a good place to go. when you arrive in the park there's a shelter to the right and parking to the left. You also have the option of going to the left across the bridge which would lead down to the beach access points. If you were to go to the right you will find a lot of wooded areas and walking trails. Plenty of picnic benches throughout the park. The large private bathrooms are located just next to the playground which has another very large covered structure with many picnic benches for kids parties and gatherings etc. it's a dog friendly park as well so a wonderful place to get your poochers, smoochers, kibble and bits (not my dogs names) outside for walkies and zoomies across the beach. Hope this helps and that you enjoy yourself at...
Read moreI miss the old name for the park. I grew up knowing this place as "Priest Point Park," and still refer to it that way, as do most of the other locals I still know in the area. I wasn't part of the discussions surrounding renaming it, but I can't imagine that I would have found the arguments in favor of the change to be persuasive.
It's still the same park, even so. There's a lovely little spot near the bottom of the loop that overlooks the bay, with a low, crenelated stone wall in front of it. A bit over 30 years ago I met an old Austrian immigrant there, purely by chance, and we started talking. He had been a cavalryman in Austria's army during the Great War, and had immigrated to the USA afterward. He had worked in a plywood factory in Little Hollywood, over the water, well before I was born, and had raised his family here. He was hoping to see his children and grandchildren again, as they had moved away. I hope he was able to.
Change the name of the place to fit whatever worldview you feel fits best. The name is not the place, but the memories are. This is a good place to...
