If I could give it zero stars I would. If the state is trying to close this park they are sure doing a great job of it!!!!!! We won’t be back. We have been camping here for over 30 yrs, whoever is trying to ruin this place , you’re doing a GREAT JOB! Do not waste your time going to this campground there is no Ranger on duty. The weeds are 2 foot tall around the campsites and nobody cares and nobody mows it. The state does not want to stick any money into this and we have been told by multiple people. They have tried to sell it and it . I’m sure they do. It’s in such disrepair now due to their own negligence. We were there this weekend and we came in in our shock to see that the home that used to be the park. Rangers was burned down to the ground. Actually it’s not burned to the ground. It looks horrible. Trees were cut down weren’t dead so they could burn the house down, no one is there to take care of Park and no one seems to care levels are so low. You can’t put boats in. They don’t have any doc out because the water level is low and no one seems to want to put any water into it so I’m guessing they hope that it will shut down. Do not waste your time...

This review is from a fishing and camping perspective.

Our family extensively uses the Iowa State Parks in our area and we have been to numerous other locations. In comparison Lewis and Clark does not compare favorably.

The DNR was lackluster at best. There was no hot water at all in the bathrooms which makes showering difficult. When I say no hot water I mean water did not come out of the hot faucets. We were told the breakers had melted and they were trying to get it fixed.

When we needed firewood the camp host was absent so we tracked down a DNR employee to help us out. We were told the host had the only key and should be back before 6. There were other campers in the same situation.

The lake seems poorly regulated as to fish stocking. The major species seems to be carp. There has been no visible attempt to create any environment for fish the relate to. It is mainly a boating lake.

My son set out 2 lines to night fish and in the morning he found that both lines had been cut.

I know this lake is very popular and certainly it has its application, however I would not recommend it at all. Its popularity has led to some pretty lax...

Mosquito heaven!!! I won't be back again ever on account of the mosquitoes. This place is basically rv only campsite although a tent can be pitched on any site with appox. 100 sites. There are only three restrooms to serve over 100 guests and they clearly aren't cleaned regularly. The water is undrinkable. The beach they claim to have is a 4ft tall cement wall with a step down leading to the water that is about 3ft below the step no sand or at least easy access for my young daughter. The vistor center/keelboat museum was open one day out of the six I spent here. Now back to the real reason for this review, there is no mosquito control done at this site what so ever. We had a fire, 6 tiki torches, a citronella candle, and 25%deet off repellent, still I get swarmed by mosquitoes (I'm not one that usually gets bitten either) my daughter had over 50 bites with the off repellent on. This place has signs all over that say beware if west nile but does nothing to prevent it them selves and because of that I will never...

Had never been here before. Met a friend from out of town to eat. It was a holiday and just about everything was closed. They were busy so we didn’t want to take up a table just for chatting and we were looking for a place to sit and catch up. Found this place nearby. It was cold out and the place was completely empty aside from one camper. The office didn’t even look manned, so the camper may have been there without active hookups. Really gave us a good chance to look around though. When RV’s, tents and boats are all over, your viewable horizon is limited by it all. On this visit, we had unobstructed views in all directions, which gave us a good appreciation of what this place had to offer. It’s pretty good sized, lots of places to camp, and a lot of water front ground. I had no idea the place even existed, but it would be a location for people to take a serious look at when looking for a bit of a get away.

Been camping here for years and we enjoy the scenery at this camp grounds. The fishing was poor at the lake. Unsure how the fish population is after they dredged it last year. The flowers near the shower house seem like they could use a good watering, years past they were huge and beautiful. The site we chose which was on the south side of the grounds had a dumpster and it was parked right next to the road which did present some challenges as we backed our camper up to the site. The dumpster was emptied before the weekend rush was placed back in the exact spot even though there is gravel and room for it to go over several feet. For our trip this time I gave it just 4 stars since it seems to be run a bit differently than it had with the previous camp hosts.
