Horton Mill Covered Bridge — Attraction in Oneonta

A nice covered bridge still in good condition. 4stars. Easy access from roadside parking area with stairs down to bridge. Access and area condition 3Stars. This bridge was just closed to traffic though it appears still in usable condition. Instead of placing a nice baracade, a pike of rock was dumped in the road. This could be a much better tourist spot if better Signs, some more railing was added on on a few overlooks for bridge which at present have a 60' cliff exposed to areas where people are going to get a photo. Also a few trees trimmed where railing is present. A bit if makeup and rouge would really help with present drive up nade into Handicap parking (no access for Handicap since parking is well above bridge and drive up has a pile of Rocks blocking easy access. Beautiful. Minus one star for the extremely dangerous way back onto the road. It's in the middle of a curve and hill. I watched people drive over the bridge and it didn't move a bit. Impressive. I did not. Will be back to do the trail though. Drive a smaller car if you can. Not a lot of parking (like room for 1 vehicle) and people travel this bridge frequently. Well-maintained. Beautiful piece of history. Also a well-maintained trail. There’s room for a few cars to park on the main road and there are stairs down to the bridge (if you have mobility issues I’d recommend parking down the hill nearer to the bridge.
