PSA: The mystery maze closes 2 hours before the flashlight mazes begin! The hole punch maze closes 1 hour before flashlight for the day only tickets!! For Saturday the 21st that meant the mystery maze closed at 4pm.
The farm is pretty cool: plenty of parking, clean port-a-pottys, and two food trucks to choose from. The one food stand had a combo of 2 hot dogs(with any standard fixins), a soda, and a bag of chips for $10 + tax/tip. Reasonably priced if you don’t want to venture out into the surrounding towns!
We purchased our All-Day tickets online the night before and scanned them in at the check in tent in front of the market. They gave us our wrist bands and sent us on our way. It felt a little weird because most farms will ask you if you’ve been before and give you a quick run down of where everything is. The farm isn’t that big so we were able to wander around and find the mazes.
I had researched their mazes and rules when I bought the ticket, but they didn’t make the maze closures very clear. Just a small note on a sub page that is kind of vague. Their front page for the mazes say that the mystery maze is not open during the flashlight maze and to reserve about an hour for it. (They actually budget two hours for the mystery mazes, not 1.) I used their website time estimates for each maze to plan out an agenda that would allow us to complete 2 or 3 of the harder mazes with the last maze timed for a little after sunset to do the flashlight part. Unfortunately, we were walking to the mystery maze a little after 4pm when one of the nice pumpkin patch drivers informed us it had already closed because they budget two hours for it. I understand that it is for safety, I just wish they had made that more clear on their website and maybe when we had checked in at the tent they could have told us that it was closing soon and to complete it first if we wanted to do it. A bummer after driving a couple hours for it.
The hole punch maze was fun and challenging! It took us about two hours to complete since you really have to search every dead end for a puncher. We chose to do this one during the daylight since it was a longer one and I’m happy we did. We did the trivia maze in the dark and it definitely made it harder!! The trivia questions themselves were already impossible for us since we aren’t classical music people, but just finding the posts in the dark was a real challenge. We didn’t end up finding all of them and even though we made educated guesses for the crossword, we could not figure out the word scramble. The staff patrolling the maze were super helpful if you wanted hints to the trivia answers though! I saw a review saying the prize for solving the scramble was a smarties roll. I agree that it would be nice if the prize was something from the farm, like a small piece of fudge. Though I suppose kids are always going to be happy about any candy, it would just be nice if it was something special to the farm.
A final note: bring a good flashlight! I thought my flashlight was good until it got dark and it turned out my phone flashlight was wayy better. More lumens is...
Read moreMy 3rd time, 3 years in a row. This visit was anything but good. It cost a senior citizen $15 to watch the grandkids on the playground. I can not do the maze, back injuries. The check-in girl told me to go inside and ask. The lady working the cash register, told me to go back out and wait until they opened the door. I said, she just told me to come in and ask. I was told again to wait. I asked my question and was told I had to get a $15 ticket. I said - then I will just sit out and wait for them. BTW it was 11:15am, they open at 11. The other part of my party, 4 adults & 2 kids had an 11am ticket for the maze. That is $60. Porta potties closest to where we parked are in the restricted area. Posted trespassing signs to potty. I am in my 60's with a herniated disc acting up.
When they weigh the pumpkins, the scale was not on zero and I told the girl weighing them. It had numbers showing to add to your amount you pay for your pumpkins. We got 7 pumpkins, add that up to a few extra dollars. We got ice cream twice, one was the $10 serving. The first time through it was full, the 2nd time it was 3/4 full. The older lady filled it the 2nd time, and wasn't very friendly. The $5 cup on the 2nd time was very soft and the two workers discussed it, we only got a small scoop. The 1st time we got 1 & 1/2 scoop, not even close to the cup size. One couple with us has been for the past 5 years. They agreed that the changes were not very family friendly and were quite surprised of the one guy on the red atv/utv patrolling little kids & parents in the parking lot. Asking where are you going? You can't go here or there. That is the privilege of paying for the maze.... etc.. He was rude. I saw several people LEAVE without spending a dime. I wish we had left, but we made the best of the day with what we witnessed. The flowers are pretty much gone. Pumpkins are not cheap there, weighed by the pounds & remember the scale is in their favor. The only positive thing is that the one funny older guy that drives the wagon to the pumpkin patch. We were there Sunday Oct. 13th. Your car will be extremely covered in reddish dirt/dust. We spent a lot of money, but next year we will visit a different pumpkin patch. (rated a 2 because it was a nice...
Read moreLet me start by saying the mazes are always amazing and was something we looked forward to every year. I would also have to say that for the most part, the staff is very friendly with some of them excessively so. My issue and the reason for the low rating is the fee they tried to levy for an accident and make everyone aware before they go. On the way out my son tripped over his brother’s foot running by him and took out a single stalk with a single ear of corn on it. The cost of this unintended accident was to be $10 or, when they found out I had no intention of paying, being asked to leave. As I just dropped $90 I thought it a bit much. I looked online and there was mention of an undisclosed fine for damage or vandalism but I saw no signs telling the amount and was not told that it was $10 a stalk regardless of how it happens when we entered. Online they could state any damage regardless of how it happened. The staff member who stopped us from leaving and whoever he was talking on the radio with expressed no interest in hearing it was just a mistake. It all seemed a bit petty to me. It is their farm and their rules but at least tell everyone at the entrance of the maze instead gouging people after the fact. Worst of all my son, who suffers from anxiety attacks, ended up having one due the horrible thing he thought he did by accident. IT must have been bad for the way it was handled. If you go you will have a lot of fun, foods good to, but be aware of the dangers of breaking a single stalk of...
