Public Rest Area Northbound — Attraction in Orangeburg

Vending machines. So first off, the vending machines are gated in, which in its self isn't that bad. But then I pressed the button for water and it was sold out, so I went to the other vending machine to the far right and order a ginger ale. To my surprise, I got a bottle of water instead. Then I look to my right and see a box with poorly written English on it "janitors do not service vending machines. If you a problem with machine." It was apparently a suggestions box (which was full) and people were given some blind assistance forms to write on the back of. People, if you want to run a rest stop, please load the vending...

It is what it is. Relatively safe 24/7, but as always anywhere, keep your wits about you. The vending options are ample, machines reliable and stocked, and facilities usually pretty decent, at least during the day. Say what you will about SC, but I hold our rest areas up against those from any other state. Great place to stretch your legs and let Fido fertilize the grass a little. Easy off and on to the interstate with plenty of runway to get back up to speed to merge back...

The only positive thing about this place is that the womans restroom was clean. AC must be broken because it is hotter than Hades inside. The doors were closed during the night and the temperature inside had to have been above 90. Things were hot to the touch. It was cooler outside. This morning around 0600 it was still just as hot. Even with the doors open the temperature inside felt like above 75. Too hot for me when I sweat indoors and cool down as soon as I get...
