We are entering our 2nd month doing a CSA with Rootbound and I will say at first we did a month to month just to test it out. We will be purchasing a full season next year and for as long as they continue to offer it we'll be a customer. This is also our 2nd farm for trying CSA the one previously had finished for the year and we happened to find this one. I will note you definitely taste a difference from store bought to farm fresh and we love it. During our first pickup, we elected to pick up from the farm, we ordered the bulk canning tomatoes and didn't see it. Due to previous experience with other we were anticipating some struggle to obtain them, but I will gladly state this was not the fact. My husband went, noticed it was missing, asked the worker on site, they called, pulled the order, apologized and quickly corrected it and when I say quickly I think he said it was all a total of 3-5minutes including asking/phone call/getting the box to him. A few weeks later, I emailed the farm asking how to get on a waiting list for the eggs, they are very quick to respond and added the egg share to our account going forward which was wonderful. When the storms hit the following week, I emailed again feeling like I shouldn't bug them but wanted to find out if they were open or if pick ups where on hold at our location, again they were quick to respond, nice and answered all questions and didn't make us feel like we were bothering them. Even explained their process so in the future I won't have to ask. Overall they've been extremely friendly, don't get impatient when you ask questions and their products speak for themselves. We're extremely happy with the CSA programs at Rootbound Farm and look forward to continue with them...
Read moreMy partner's family have subscribed to Rootbound's CSA (weekly fresh produce box) for years, but when we decided to try a farmshare for the first time last year, we got tempted to another local farm's CSA by lower upfront costs and home delivery, but we ended up not loving the experience. This year, we invested in Rootbound instead, and we are SO glad we made the switch!
Though you pay a lot upfront for a weekly CSA, it breaks down to a really quite low weekly grocery bill, and the funds go towards supporting local farmers, which we love. We also spend WAY less money eating out now as we make most meals at home. We also enjoy the knowledge that our produce is fresh & organic. There's a huge variety each week, and being able to fine-tune your box is the best! Trying veggies I don't normally pick out really helps me to get creative with my cooking. Plus the lack of home delivery ended up not being a problem - one of the many convenient pickup locations is just down our street, so we get a nice walk in each week with the dogs when we go to pick it up. They also deliver for a surprisingly long growing season - May through December - so you get your money's worth for sure. Our family is now definitely loyal to Rootbound!
I highly recommend looking into a farmshare/CSA if you've never done so before, and this is definitely the one to pick. We got to visit their farm during a free subscriber event and were impressed with the knowledgeability, inclusivity, and care shown by their staff. This is a great...
Read moreExceptional organic produce! I've purchased Rootbound's produce in so many ways -- farmers markets, Rainbow Blossom stores, New Roots' food justice program, and this year I signed up for Rootbound's weekly CSA.
I have Celiac disease and it's great to know I'm getting clean produce that won't bother my already stressed immune system. I don't worry about the lettuce & cilantro being recalled for food safety issues either!
I have ALWAYS been amazed at the quality and freshness of my items. The CSA is fantastic. I can customize my order if I want and there other products from the farm available to add on. When I signed up, Included a dozen eggs each week. They are usually very large with the most detectible deep yellow/orange yolks I've ever seen.
The season is pretty long too, going through December this year. I signed up in mid-June. My orders included everything -- greens, corn, heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, summer & winter squash, okra, potatoes, garlic, herbs, watermelon ... I ordered 10# cases of canning tomatoes several times to make soup,...
