First off I'd like to say that I have always loved Bauman's and still do, however today I had a very poor experience. I ordered a veggie lover's grilled sandwich which was supposed to be grilled. When I got my sandwich it was cold, including the bread. I respectfully asked if it was supposed to be cold and was told by the young lady who made it that they didn't have a microwave, so they were just putting the bread on the grill. Because the bread was cold and their were no grill marks, I asked if the bread had been put on the grill. She said yes, because she was the one who had made it. I said okay and decided to eat it cold, but then I thought about it and came back to ask if it could be made again. The sandwich was given to the young lady who originally made it to do over. She seemed upset, which was not my aim at all. So as I stood there with my daughter we noticed that the bread was put on a flat grill for what seemed to be 30 SECONDS. If anything, it was a minute or less. As more people came to the line we moved so they could order. The young lady did not call my name out as they usually do when an order is ready, which confused me since I did not know for sure if it was mine or not. One of the young ladies went to ask about the sandwich that was on the counter, to which the young lady who made it stated "She wanted me to make it again and now I don't know where she went." I had been there the entire time, and my name was not called out. It seemed clear that she was upset and did not want to call my name out as customary, or speak to me at all. As I was leaving to sit down to eat my sandwich, I met eyes with her and she did not appear to be pleased. I felt like I was being treated as if I had done something wrong. Moreover, my sandwich was cold again and I had paid the grilled sandwich price. That to say that I did not finish my sandwich... In the end, I decided to ask one of the ladies at the register if anything could be done. She asked me if I had spoken to the anyone over in the deli, in which then I told her what had happened, and how the young lady seemed upset, so I didn't want to ask anyone in that department for anything else. I told her that I didn't want to cause any trouble, but if I could just have one dollar back since I paid for the grilled sandwich which was cold. She said that she would refund the entire amount due to it not being what I expected or hoped for. I had no idea of getting a full refund, however, I do appreciate her kindness and understanding. I think I'm just going to be done ordering from the deli from now on, and anytime my daughter wants an ice cream, I'll just give her the money to get it for herself. I don't want to deal with the silent yet loud displeasure ever...
Read moreEaster Egg hunt was a Rip off!
This was my first time going to the farm.
I was more than willing to pay $5.00 for my 2 year old daughter to participate but was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the amount and quality of the prizes she received.
For $5.00 she got $1.50 worth of prizes.
She was allowed to pick up 12 plastic eggs that were exchanged for 12 tiny prizes....she was given 6 Trinket choking hazard size oriental trading toys (dinosaurs/stickers/bouncy balls) and 6 tiny pieces of candy (smarties/dum dum lollipops/a single Swedish fish candy)
If your child was one of the 30 out of maybe 2000 kids there that picked up a sticker that said winner your child got a special prizes like a goodie bag or even a filled Easter basket. My daughter did not understand why other kids in front of her got one but she didn't. She's only two...an early lesson on learning that not everyone is a winner I guess.
She also was allowed to choose either a donut or an ice cream cone but most of the staff had no clue where we were supposed to go to get them. After waiting around 15 minutes in a long line where you order lunch items I found out she could have gotten her donut immediately in a different location.
The whole Easter egg hunt experience was a disappointment and not worth $5.00
My daughter did enjoy the free play areas but we were told she was to small for any of the bouncing play areas which cost $3.00, which if she was allowed to play on I definitely would have paid for. I saw children the same size as her playing in the bouncing areas so not sure why they were allowed and she wasn't. She loved their climbing structures and tricycle track. She enjoyed the chickens but was afraid of the goats and llama.
If you are coming just for the General store then it's a nice one. ..plenty of dessert items to choose from pies, cupcakes, rolls, fresh produce, jams and jelly's, decorative items like dishes and jewelry, nursery items. ..plants, hanging flower baskets, and large ceramic pots. I'd rate the store 4 stars since the staff seemed to busy too help anyone but the negative experience with egg hunt is keeping my rating at 2 stars for the whole farm.
I don't know if we well return for their Pumpkin patch in the fall since I haven't experienced that yet but I'm definitely not paying for the Easter...
Read moreHad a very strange experience today (Saturday, April 12, 2025) at Bauman's Farm. It bums out because this is the first and only time this has ever happened to me in a state as friendly as Oregon.
On the way back to Portland from Salem, my wife and I stopped at Brooks Gardens Peonies today. The friendly owner there recommended that we take our two sons to Bauman's for milkshakes on the way back to Portland.
While my wife looked at trees in the garden center, my 13 year old, 10 year old and I walked into Bauman's store at 4:25 pm. The young woman working the counter left us standing at the counter for a bit. When she finally got around to talking to us, she gave us a bit of a stand-offish vibe. First, we tried to order two milkshakes and were told that the store was no longer serving mixed drinks. We ended up ordering a root beer and an Italian soda instead. But when we then tried to order a quesadilla, we were told that the store was no longer serving food.
At this point, the vibe I was getting struck me as weird and unwelcoming. I started to feel uncomfortable and just decided that it would be best if my kiddos and I went somewhere else for food. I told the woman that we would just cancel the order and be on our way. Her response to that was, "OK good."
I honestly can't say what prompted this kind of behavior and I hate to make any assumptions about whether race or demographics played a role (my family is Indian-American and it's probably pretty obvious that we're not multiple generation native Oregonians). When I told my wife about what happened, she was furious, and insisted that I tell the staff person who was helping her in the nursery. That staff person was very apologetic and told us that she would never have treated us that way.
My wife and I ended up taking our milkshake, quesadilla and tree business elsewhere. The experience at Bauman's definitely cast a gloomy shadow on us for the...
