Beautiful sandy beaches without the beach, the sand was created during the formation of Crater Lake. Excellent stargazing and a lot of peace and quiet. Be advised, if you plan on driving a 4x4 vehicle it will need to be a 4WD and not an all-wheel drive or you will most certainly get stuck on the dunes. In a Toyota 4WD, you’ll want to use 4LO and engage A-TRAC instead of using Multi-Terrain Select. In Jeeps and Land Rovers, best to put in 4LO with the terrain set to auto. Subarus will have extreme difficulty without an experienced off road driver. You are supposed to have a whip flag on the dunes.

The sand dunes here are a lot of fun if you have an off road vehicle. There are requirements to using the sand dunes like having a permit and sticker for off-road and a flag for being seen on the dunes but you can drive around in the parking lot to experience the sand without getting into the sand dune area itself. A bonus is less than a few miles further down the road is the "Lost Forest", the name is derived from the fact that the forest is more than 40 miles from the nearest forest and is being taken over by the drifting sands.

Wow awesome! This sand is different from the coast and the Coleman mini bikes did amazing! Cool open camp ground with portojohns. No hook ups of any kind fyi. Be prepared for the noise of quads, bikes ECT. Don't go here for peace and quiet, go to rip it up. DO NOT do donuts or ride crazy in the camp ground. LEOs have 4WD dodge trucks and have no problem getting to you almost anywhere and pop up randomly. You are not alone 😂

The dunes were very wet the day we arrived. Although there is plenty do ride two things to watch for. First there is no cell service while your out on the dunes. Second there is zero police coverage as this is lake county. There is a very large population of people who might want to stay away from law enforcement. As a result theft seems to be a very big problem. Make sure you keep your valuables close. Because nobody is going to come help you. Also the road going into the dunes was really hard on my vehicle. The washboard was in...
