This review is 100% for rhonda wood and her ranger bully... the rest of the staff encountered were friendly the camp sites are a little close together but still a lot of room and its very pretty there now on to mrs. Wood... we came to your camp ground the week after the 4th... we decided to take a camping trip because my husbands mother died 3 months ago and because our 20 year annaversary was in 2 weeks we just wanted to relax and forget life SO MUCH FOR THAT THOUGHT i wish i had never even found/booked your camp ground... i do appologize AGAIN for the slight attitude you got (even though you were super rude to us first) from my hubs over gathered wood thats in every camp fire on your camp ground. But see you never know what someone is going thru... my hubs had lost his mother no he hasnt been the most pleasant person since but im sorry lady we werent even as rude to you as you were to us... i was hoping that going to your camp ground might relax him some but you made sure that didnt happen huh mrs wood... we put the wood back you said we couldnt gather and where we got it from like you said... we told you sorry for the star link that wasnt hurt that we didnt see that a small branch fell on... i even leaned over and told you we werent trying to start any problems... but you still called your ranger bully and had him kick us out 5 hours later at 7 pm with a 3 hour drive to get back to our house...oh not to mention the sobritiy test and breathalizer the cop had us take that if we didnt im sure we would have been pulled over again... ive dealt with so many camp managers and had disagreements with them and have never been kicked out of a lake before for a verbal disagreement over gather wood that we put back... most managers will come back to your camp sight, which i told you all 3 times you asked for it, and talk it out with you which is when i would have explained my hubs situation to you... but for some reason you felt like you had to have us kicked out and no refund of my money over a super small completely verbal disagreement and your bully ranger wouldnt even listen to our side...he acted like such a good guy too he said im not gonna ban you forever just the time you paid for so you can come back like friday... i even tried to explain to him that theres no way we can come back we live 3 hours away but of course hes a cop so no compassion will come from him... so rhonda wood the only way i can do anything is this review so #1 mrs wood when your rude to people their rude back i can even prove your rude... at the very least you could have came to our site and asked us to leave but instead you sent a ranger out (and didnt even come out with him to try and squash the disagreement) 5 hours later after we even waved at you nicely on our way back in from walmart. #2 i hope that when someone you and your ranger buddy cares about dies.... someone treats you just like you treated my husband last week... you could have had some compassion and been a decent human tried to talk it out or just left us alone after we droped the wood like you wanted but you got petty like a true karen... i hope someone shows you this review and you feel as horrible as you are...will never go back i enjoy fun and drama free...

I would love to give this place 5 stars. However, today there was a major thunderstorm that came through about an hour after we got unpacked and got set up. It was BAD. Trees were getting hit by lightning, crashing down onto a picnic table, pulled another tree down also. Then all he#* broke loose. Lightning ,thunder, wind, strikes over our head, air to ground further from us towards the water. We had 9 people, 2 handicapped elderly parents and an 8 yo who had just called and scraped his knee pretty badly on the sidewalk. We all huddled under our pop up for about 45 minutes praying we would be safe, Checking the radar for when we could probably safely leave. Our son was freaking out, crying as thunder boomed and lightning went over our heads. Once it lessened just slightly, we started packing up and then made a run for the cars. We pulled one car up onto the sidewalk to try to safely get the older and youngest to safety, then we made several trips to pack up all of our water toys, Soaking wet towels, food, coolers, chairs into 2 cars. We were all getting into the cars to leave when a ranger pulls up. we thought he was checking to make sure we were all safe and ok since lightning had struck so close to us. OH NO. This man was taking a picture of our car to WRITE US A TICKET. we asked what he was doing. He said writing a ticket. I said what do you mean? We had just weathered this crazy dangerous storm and instead of asking if we were OK he's WRITING US A TICKET? We were all super stressed out, worried we were going to get hit by lightning and then this happened. There was no one else in the picnic area. He said and I quote "You all think you're special." That was it. He then got into his truck and sped away. Never ONCE made sure anyone was ok. I am still upset about that. I will be calling AND writing as far as I can go to complain about this man, supposed park ranger, writing us a ticket for trying to get our family to safety. With all that going on around us. Seriously? When we made sure we cleaned our picnic area up more than it was, cleaning other people's trash even, in THAT kind of weather. So Missouri state parks it's certainly not safety first it's tickets first. We come to Missouri at least once a year. Never have we had such a...

Beautiful camp site 178. This site is a the very end of the park. It is located right on the banks of the lake and you can easily walk down a couple feet to fish. Deer hang out and graze just a few feet away, racoons walk along the banks and climb the trees, squirrels and birds all just in the trees. You are surrounded by nature. There is a trail right there to begin a hike and a concrete pad to set up your tent, small tents have no way to mount to the ground but larger ones I think you could. There are grassy areas to put up your tent too, we just used the concrete pad as it is flat. We didn't mount our tent but no had no worries on being blown away, we put heavy stuff in it when we would leave the site. Pictures are the night time view around 10:30 pm. The moon is just amazing as it shines on the water. There are several shower houses and they are nice, it is walking distance from the camp site but I chose to drive to it, the public beach is sandy and nice, I do suggest driving to it, as it is some distance from this camp site. The store at the beginning of park is friendly and offers things that you may have forgotten. The camp wood that you have to buy because you cannot bring your own is $10 for a very small bundle, to burn 1 bundles lasted about an hour so you need a few bundles. The store closes at 7pm. Some cons: 6:30 am on Saturday morning the trash truck comes through the site so that is a bit loud, and people just suck, since this site is right on the bank, people come through and fish while you are camping and while this is allowed by the park, I do find it a bit rude of people to just causally walk through your campsite to fish. I would never do this as it is just common courtesy, but some people just don't care. Overall, I would camp at this site again as the beauty of it is just amazing and I think I will leave my fishing chair by the bank and maybe that would keep people off the site...

We had two wonderful days of hiking and exploring Lake of the Ozarks State Park. Our first hike took us back and forth on the Bluestem Knoll trail. This .80 mile trail led us through wooded areas, up and down a mild ravine, across a creek, and also through meadows. Once we completed the trail, we turned around and hiked the trail again. This put us back at our parking spot. We could have just walked along the roadway to our car, bu we enjoyed the trail so much we wanted to experience it again. Lakeview Bend Trail is what we followed the following day on our hike. The ranger in the hut near the trailhead was extremely helpful. She noticed us looking at the informational kiosks and came out of the hut to answer any questions we had and provide us with maps. Her efforts and courtesy were greatly appreciated. The Lakeview Bend Trail is an absolutely beautiful 1.5 mile hike through woods, up and down mild hills, along Lake of the Ozarks shoreline, and along the base of bluffs. I highly recommend this Trail for the variety of views you will experience. We drove to a boat launch which was very near a swim beach which had nice restroom facilities. Adjacent to the swim beach were docks you could walk out on for a nice view of the lake or to fish. A small kids playground was there too. Being the Midwest, be sure to dress appropriately for hiking and use insect repellant. Over the ankle socks and boots can prevent chiggers from aggravating you. Beware of mosquitoes and prepare for them. Poisonous snakes are not a major concern as Copperheads are the only poisonous ones around. We saw no snakes at all during our hikes. We noticed chipmunks, ground hogs, and deer during our foray. Looking forward to next year's visit to Lake of the Ozarks and the opportunity to explore this no entry fee Park.

Let me start by saying, there is not good cell service. I could send texts and receive calls but was unable to surf the web to search for things to do or initiate navigation from the campground to anywhere else. We booked an 8 night stay in Section 3 of the campground. From the beginning we were disappointed that the website didn't have site pics so we were really flying blind and it was hard to navigate the state park site to get a lay of the land for things nearby in the campground. Our site was in the hot hot midday sun which made for a miserable time in the 100°+ days we experienced while there. Our site had a power hook up and a good amount of flat shaded space behind it for the kids to play. All the neighboring kids would run around in the middle and it was easy to keep an eye on them. Let's talk about restrooms and bathhouses. We were situated between two. One was much smaller and had 4 bathroom/showers. Each bathroom had a shower in it. These were not super clean. I don't blame the park hosts, many of the campers were less than courteous to put it nicely. They constantly smelled like cigarettes and had ashes in the sink. But the hosts were always quick to clean up bigger issues like clogged toilets. They were also extremely hot in the extreme heat as they had no air. The bigger bathhouses were much much nicer. The park touts being the largest state park in Missouri and it is, but the issue is it is split by the lake. It took us over 30 minutes to get to the caverns. There was Public Beach #1 near us, just a short drive from our site or could be walked. I thought it was very picturesque. There were also deer everywhere and we saw two tiny fawns.
