We visited with our eight-year-old handicapped son, pushing him in his speacial needs all-terrain stroller. The accessible loop was easy and short. We headed south on the Magnificent Pines trail, planning to hike the Pines Connector and then the Not So Magnificent Pines trail to Powerline Trail and Wetlands Boardwalk. There is a large tree down on the Not So Maginicent Pines trail, causing us to turn around and continue all the way to the end of the Magnificent Pines Trail. For those familiar other MI pines, the magnificence of these should be called into question. The floating boardwalk held surprises. When we stepped down, little fountains of swamp water would shoot up out of the holes, even rising a couple of feet. This made for a surpisingly wet and messy walk. Finally, once we got off the board walk to do the northern section of the Fern Oak Trail, we encounterd a steep, rutted, rooty hill that required us to use a belt on the front of the stroller to pull while another person pushed. Don't take these as reasons not to visit. It's a very nice place to hike. Just beware if you're pushing a stroller, especially with a lot of weight in it.

I wanted to give it 5 stars, but why is there literally no entrance sign for this place? It's on a very busy road, and I drove right past it. Not a great start for a first time visitor. Otherwise the visit was excellent! Trails are well signed, in good shape, wide with lots of blazes, would be a great winter visit! I really enjoy the outreach activities - photo monitoring points for visitors, and a geo-referenced PDF map for Avenza - and appreciate the kiosk signage about trail closures and poison sumac! Cool wetland boardwalk with diverse plants and catbirds and wrens calling! Unfortunately I could not locate the chestnut at chestnut point, but there are good sized oaks and happy to see lots of oak recruitment! Cool mushrooms everywhere. Love the humor of magnificent pines/not so magnificent pines 🤣

By far my favorite nature trail in Kalamazoo! The full trail is rather large (I believe nearly 3 miles long), with many diverse sights, fuana, and wildlife to see. If you can't walk the full way though, there are many shortcuts through the middle you can take to get back to the parking lot. The trees are amazing and beautiful, and the park is full of shade. It also leads straight into Oshtemo park after about a 10 minute walk, so perfect if you want to play sports or go disc golfing.

My husband and I recently went to check this place out. We need to get out and hike more often, but this place is definitely a new favorite. It's got numerous trails, levels of difficulty, and definitely a good option for a more scenic form walking/hiking. Thank you to whomever may be maintaining this trail and more. Your hard work and dedication to the maintenance of this area does not go unnoticed! For those of you that like walks and hikes: Where good hiking boots for the more tricky areas or even some good shoes with good tread/grip on the bottom. There are flat areas and even some hilly/steep sections depending on which trail you follow. Also, there are a handful of geocaches here for those of you that have an interest in that sort...
