I recently booked to stay at the cabins at Rock Creek Marina for the 7th, 8th, and 9th of July 2020. After I got settled in, I went to the store for groceries and then sat down to finish some work on my laptop before my "vacation" could start. As I worked, it got dark outside and I had not turned on lights in the cabin. As I was sitting there, I heard some noises outside and my puppy that was with me started barking and went to the door, and I got up to try to look. There are no lights in the parking area, and since I was the only person up there (up a dead end dirt road, three cabins, no outside lights other than porch lights) I couldn't see anything or anyone, so I turned on my porch light and some lights in the cabin and then sat back down. About 20 minutes later, lights outside caught my attention on the deck and when I looked up I realized it was the headlights on my van. I walked to the window and my interior lights were on too. My lights come on when someone is lifting the handles or trying to get into the back. I set off my panic alarm for a while to try to scare anyone away. My keys were on the kitchen counter when it happened and I was completely alone, so I called 911 and asked for an officer to come out and check things out for me. I stayed on the call with the 911 dispatcher until the officer got there, but since it took so long for them to get there, I decided I wasn't willing to stay through the night. I packed up all of my belongings and loaded up my things. So.. with all of that being said... that was not the part of the trip that bothered me!! It was scary and that is life and I was not hurt, so I am ok. The part that upset me was the woman, Denise, from the front office that gave me her number for any after hours emergencies and how she treated me. When I called to see where I could return the keys, it went to a voicemail, and I was still pretty shaken, so I left a message and started driving home. It was already after 10 and I had a long drive home. When she called me back about 10-15 minutes later, the first thing she asked me was "Well, what was the officer's name that came out?". I explained that I didn't ask his name, but gave her the 911 dispatcher's name, because I had asked her name to thank her for staying on the phone with me. She then told me that she didn't have a report about it. She told me a couple of times that she has a scanner and gets some kind of report and she didn't have it yet. I told her that I wasn't sure how that worked, but the officer had come from Jefferson county and had checked everything out. I asked her where I could return the keys and she said there was a lock box by the steps to my cabin. I told her that I was not going to go back up there, because I had already told her that I didn't feel safe. In a condescending tone she said "I assure you that you are safe". I let her know that she didn't have the ability to do that. Anyone could have come in through the trees off of the highway. If I was scared enough to not stay up there, I wasn't going to go back. I asked for a box by the marina and she said there wasn't one. I finally said I would just mail them the next day when I got home and disconnected the call with her. The next day I called to verify the address to send the keys and she started to argue with me again. She was going to make me wait for an answer about a refund until Thursday, until I told her that I would just wait to mail the keys until I heard a decision. For the record though, I mailed the keys before I even talked to her, and paid the extra so she would have to sign for them. I think that they should probably install some lighting in the parking area by the cabins for safety, but either way the lady was horrible. She should not be dealing with difficult situations. PS.. the pictures look like the cabin is lakeside.. it is not by the water. It is up on a hill and the trees are overgrown. You can barely see the water...
Read moreOn June 13th I booked a cabin for myself and about 13 other family members for an extended weekend getaway close to home. Today I received a phone call saying the cabin was double booked and they were canceling my reservation that is three weeks away. Their only offer to us was a six person cabin that had a recliner and a couch for the ones that wouldn’t have a bed. Clearly not enough space for our group. My family and I now have to scramble to find a vacation spot to accommodate our large group. We’ve looked everywhere, and nothing is available anywhere nearby. This was going to be the last little getaway with my entire family due to my son moving out and starting his life as an adult. I put this reservation on my credit card and immediately paid it off with money given to me by my extended family. Now I have to come up with the cash to pay them back. This is completely disappointing and was very...
