This was our 2nd year in a row doing a friend's group trip with all our kids and it was great. Our group has stayed on the north end right near one of the beach areas and next to the bathroom house. The beach is super clean, great sand and all around nice for the families. The bathroom house while the showers are what you expect have always been pretty clean as well. It's not too far from some golf courses and makes for an easy outing for the boys.
There are a few areas to access the water. At the boat launch there's a decent pier for fishing
One thing I wish they would consider is that we usually rent an extra site for the group to have a common area. It'd be great if they considered creating some actual group sites with like +/-10 sites in equal distance that had a fire pit and pavilion. We do some group dinners and even this year our weekend had a lot of rain so it'd be nice if there was an option for covered space to gather....we all either rented campers or brought one and so we would gather under awnings and use umbrellas ...but definitely would see benefit to being able to gather under a pavilion with picnic tables or around a fire pit or outdoor fire place. We kind of rotate on the fire pit currently and as I mentioned the common site. Just thinking it'd be cool if they created a group rate/space that could easily duel into individual sites when they don't...
Read moreWe stayed on site 73 (North Loop) with an 18' travel trailer in August. The majority of sites slope from the right side of the park down to the lake, but we were able to make adjustments and leveling wasn't too bad. A few sites are asphalt. The rest are dirt. Several sites have multiple tree roots sticking up from the ground. As others have stated, the 2 north loop bathhouses are older, but clean. The potable water is pretty strong well water, but we didn't have issues while using it for dishes and teeth brushing in our trailer. We had a nice view of the lake, and the Boardwalk (it was like a longggg, handicap accessible wooden ramp) went smoothly down to the north beach. The lake is wonderful: shallow and sandy. The main beach is very large and nice too. The little store rents kayaks and paddle boards, has some camp items, and serves tasty ice cream. The sites along the lake in the South Loop are very shaded and more level than those in the North Loop. The dump station is rather inconveniently located (near the office), but it looks like they're building a new dump station behind the office in a better location. The park was very quiet at night! The playground could use improvements. The park is convenient to Gaylord. Walmart is only 15 minutes north. We loved this park and will...
Read moreIt was kind of chaos from the get go at this park...they didn't have our reservation in their computer, so had to start all over before getting our site. The check-in girls were super helpful and sweet to help to get us all set up though...sooo thankful for that!!! Our site was really big and right at the top of the Boardwalk going down to the beach. Interesting that you share your electrical box with your neighboring sites though but it worked out fine. You get a nice firepit and picnic table at each site. Lots of huge trees all around campground. Beach for the most part was nice and went of forever with really nice sand. Lots of picnic tables and benches to sit at if your not in the water. They have a nice Pavillion/Store too to buy ice cream, other treats and supplies at. Also Firewood to purchase for $7.00 and Ice for $4.50. Not the best scenario for fishing from shore at this place, very shallow but people were catching small sunfish. We had a good crowd around us at our site location so we were thankful for that! If you want peace while staying there come at the beginning of the week but weekend are crazy and a bit loud there. We thought it was fine camping there but think we will try somewhere else next time...
