Wow, where do I start? Our party of 11, including kids ranging from 2 to 11, showed up unexpectedly at the Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum today and we were warmly welcomed. Despite not having planned for a visit of our size, the director insisted on giving us a tour, and we're so grateful she did!
Admittedly, we were a bit nervous because our kids are mostly toddlers and they're at that curious age where they want to touch everything. While we were doing our best to keep an eye on them, they still managed to get their little hands on a few exhibits. But the amazing director giving us our tour didn't even bat an eye. She could see we were trying hard to respect the space, which we greatly appreciated.
She did such an amazing job making the tour fun and educational that my 9 and 11-year-olds were absolutely captivated. And for me who loves history, it was great. For My dad who is a sought after antique appraiser, even being on the roadshow, he was impressed and he’s rarely impressed. The moms in our group loved the dresses and time pieces about motherhood and the space for the kids to run.
We found the grounds to be very toddler and baby-friendly, as long as you respect it just like you would in your grandparents house. And, oh, they even have some little gifts for the kids and a scavenger hunt you need to let them do “it’s quick which is good since my kids have attention spans of a fly”.
What's fascinating is that if you visit on a weekday, there's a good chance you'll have the place mostly to yourself and the wonderful team at the museum. We learned so much and even though we were there for two hours, it barely felt like we'd scratched the surface.
So, is it worth a visit? Absolutely! We'll be back for sure next year. See you then, Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum - thanks for an...
Read moreI love this place! I visit my parents in Rockport a couple times a year and I've been here twice now. The museum is great, the items are displayed very nicely. The village itself is very cool! The cabins are very authentic and very complete. I've been to similar places where the cabins were very sparsely decorated, but that's not the case here. Every cabin looks as if someone actually lived there, and the descriptions of each building are very thorough and informative.
But the best part is Nancy! She was so nice and helpful, and really made the experience so much better for us! If you're visiting the area, definitely take a couple hours...
Read moreIt was a nice place and very quaint. The museum was full of wonderful memories and artifacts. They don't do the period time dress everyday. That is only on certain scheduled times. Which is unfortunate due to that is what it is known for. They did offer a scavenger hunt and prizes (unfortunately they were not today's standard of kid friendly prizes) so it was a bit of a let down. Still very informative. The person at the counter that day was very sweet and inviting and was understanding (due to the weather 🌡️ (hot) that she let us cool down inside). This place is located outside of The Lincoln Boyhood Park. It is 20 minutes further south...
