My wife and I stopped here late in the afternoon on October 10, 2024 while driving to Rockland after having visited Boothbay Harbor that morning. It's a small park, with a good sized dirt and gravel parking lot. Once you park, it's about a 200 yard walk up a well-trodden trail to get to the lighthouse. Along this path there are some great scenic overlooks of the gorgeous rocky seacoast and offshore islands. Once you get to the lighthouse keeper's house, there is a rather steep set of stairs that you have to climb to get up to the lighthouse itself, where there are some great photo opportunities. The lighthouse keeper's house was closed for the season, but it appeared that when it is open, there is some sort of museum inside now. After we left the lighthouse area and walked back toward our car, we decided to take a side path that goes over to the north side of the peninsula, where there is a small rocky beach and a picnic area. As we went back to our rental car to leave, we found a small outhouse-style unisex restroom that had a vault toilet inside. It was relatively clean. Of note, there were quite a few visitors here late in the afternoon during the last week of the tourist season in Seacoast Maine, so I can imagine this place would be exceedingly crowded during peak, mid-summer season, and you just might have a problem finding a parking space unless you went early in the morning. It was definitely worth the detour to see it on our way to Rockland, which is only about a 10 minute drive away. The little village of Owl's Head that you have to drive through en route to the lighthouse is also quite quaint and has a few good photo...

Fun, scenic lighthouse and nice little museum and gift shop. A short walk from the parking lot the path diverges with one path going to the lighthouse and another to the pebble beach to the north of the lighthouse. I would recommend taking the marked path to the beach rather than trying to climb down to the beach from the lighthouse given the small cliff. If you take the path to the lighthouse you will find steps up to the lighthouse after a bit of a walk from the parking lot. The views are great. The museum has examples of various lights, including a fourth order...

Even though the calendar says spring, this was for practical purposes a winter visit to Owls Head State Park. My purpose was to take a couple or three photos of Owls Head Lighthouse which I managed to accomplish. When I arrived snow had just stopped falling, adding to the pure beauty here. Owls Head State Park is very inviting during warmer weather, a marvelous spot for a picnic and a stroll along the walking trail. For the more adventurous, a walk on the small but somewhat secluded beach is a possibility. If you do walk the...

Owls Head Lighthouse was a peaceful and scenic stop. It’s a small but beautiful lighthouse perched on a rocky cliff with great views of the coast. The short walk up was easy, and we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. There’s a small museum nearby with interesting facts about the lighthouse’s history and how it operated. Even though we’re not from Maine, we found it relaxing and educational, a perfect spot to take in the natural beauty and learn something new. The nearby beach was peaceful with gorgeous views all around. We will certainly be back!
