This may not be the biggest state park or lake. But it is peaceful and clean. If you enjoy nature and a quiet lake. This is a great place to visit for fishing, archery, golf, easy trails, cycling, camping, or small horsepower boating, swimming or sailing but if you sail shallow draft and a boat of less than 23 feet is probably best as the ramps are shoal and the lake is not big enough to make anything larger enjoyable. There is a marina, dockage, and some rental watercraft. They do have a small nature center with some of the local wildlife on display some inside and some out. Has some interesting presentations of the wildlife at times as well. The only real negative which is more of an annoyance is that after heavy rains parts of the roads and campground gets flooded and have to be closed and flotsam covers the roads until cleanup. They are as diligent as they can be but it can be a pain. It also creates some incredibly rough pothole filled roads on the north west side of the park where the rivers and creeks feed into the lake. This normally occurs off and on between late fall and late spring. Usually not an issue in the summer or after rainy season. Again not a big deal if you are prepared for it and just drive the long way around the the loop. Care should be taken with the potholes if you are a cyclist in that short section but the rest of the roads around the lake are great for cyclist with good views and...
Read moreI've given this four stars out of five. The park itself gets five of five. It's a beautiful park, with great hiking trails, beautiful nature preserve, great mountain biking trails, and a nice marina and beach area. It's the campground that really pulls my review down. I'd have to give the campground only 2.5 of 5 stars. Most of the sites were on a slope, with barely any areas even close to level for a tent to be set up. Most of the sites had a shared parking pad with the site next to them, so no social distancing. While it's one thing to have your car parked next to another in a parking lot, it's another thing when you have to park right next to a couple who are camping out of their van, and are sunning themselves on top of the picnic table.
Another thing I feel I should share that is different from this state park than any of the other Ohio State Parks I've been to. You were NOT allowed to set up your camper or tent on the parking pad, you had to set up in the grass. While that would've been fine in most Ohio state park campgrounds, as I said above, there was no level spot to set up. The only place close to level on 60% of the sites I saw was the parking spot. Overall, great park, but the campground needs...
Read moreWe rented a small couples cabin, pet friendly. It is one good sized room containing double bed, lg. chair which folds out to a single bed, sofa, efficiency kitchen, and a square table with 3 chairs (one needing repair). There is a motel-style heater/air conditioner, gas fireplace, TV, Wifi (unsecured), and clock radio. The bathroom has small basin, shower, toilet, hair dryer, and towels. The kitchen has the smallest possible 4-burner electric stove, sink, small fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. They don't give you filters for the coffee maker. The fridge has no freezer compartment. The pots/pans are barely adequate for any real cooking, and there are no baking pans at all; suggest you bring your own. Only enough dishes for 1 or 2 people. Double bed is comfortable, but they only gave us 2 thin cotton blankets in October. Not much storage space; IMO the cabin would be very cramped for 3 adults. Knotty pine paneling is attractive but makes the interior very dark. Lighting is poor; suggest you bring your own lamp if you want to read. There is a restaurant at the lodge with a nice view of the lake, but currently renovations are going on. Lunch/dinner menus are limited and gluten-free menu choices are...
