IT IS SO LOUD HERE! You drive down what feels like a country road to get to a park that is very heavily wooded and you think ahhhhhh nature, it’s going to be sooo peaceful. Well, you would be wrong about Robertsville State Park.
Even though you are like 4 miles from hwy 44 and 1/4 mile from hwy O, you can hear every truck jake breaking, every car that goes by, every motorcycle revving, as well as people that live nearby shooting guns and riding ATVs. And let’s not forget the daily train going by. We just want you to know so you aren’t surprised.
We love Missouri state parks and this is well-kept up. One nice thing is the flush toilet bathroom is open year-round and is heated in the winter. We visited Christmas week for six days/5 nights. The shower house is not open but that is OK. Missouri state parks also use excellent toilet paper. I never feel like I have to bring my own.
We stayed on disabled site 27 which is right next to the open bathroom. 26 Next-door is a really nice site with a very large gravel, for lack of a better word, yard. There is so much space at each site and they are a nice distance from each other.
Each site has a fire pit, a picnic table, a lantern pole, a grill and are reasonably level. You still will probably have to use a little something. You do have to back up a slope before being level on the electric sites and down a hill to get to basic sites. Oh there is a drainage ditch that runs on both sides of the road so you do have to be careful backing in.
There is a community fire pit with lots of fancy cut Flintstones looking seating around it up near the shower house. Beautiful. There are hiking trails and a fair distance from the campground is river access, a large pavilion and a playground as well. We drove to the river because it feels like a steep hill both ways. Ain’t nobody got time to walk that.
They have recycling. I don’t know if there is Wi-Fi but we couldn’t ever get any. I have sprint and at most I would get one or two bars. My husband has Verizon and he pretty much got no signal.
There is no camp store and Dollar General is close, walking distance for some and they have anything you might need.
So, will we visit again? Maybe. Babler is pretty close to St. Louis as well and is quieter.

Read moreThis used to be my favorite park. Recently we have had trouble being singled out and it truly feels like discrimination. The hosts are only doing as they are instructed. The management has become like Babler(if you know you know!). I travel and live in a tent, full time, year round, by choice. It's just my girlfriend and I. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The cats are emotional support cats as I am autistic and have severe anxiety. The dogs need work but are getting trained. Having a disability, being gay and not having a rv is not making us popular. We've been traveling for a year and a half and within the past 6 months we have been judged and treated poorly. The funny thing is, we didn't have problems the first year of our journey. We've been told by a park ranger that we were fighting in the road and people all around us complained. We do not fight. We don't hang out in the road. Certainly the nonexistent people around us didn't lie. Do not go to this park unless you are a traditional camper or rv'er. Don't go gay. We aren't homeless we just don't want another insurance bill or anything that could be damaged and not easily replaced. We don't want to pay rent to some landlord. We like our life. Tents are cheap and electric will get you through the winter! Go elsewhere! The best hosts got booted out like trash and the other good ones quit Robertsville. These people are our friends. With them gone we are just homeless, let's judge a book by everyone...
Read moreThe campsites are spread out and the campground is not crowded. They have shower, they are not the cleanest but they are decent. Bathrooms are relatively clean and there are bathrooms on both ends of the loop. There was plenty of clean water available. We camped with a tent and in a shaded site (#2). The site was nice and the tent area had a slight grade for water runoff. There was not a tent pad just the ground, and there were a few very small rocks and roots in the area. It was not really a big issue with a tarp laid down. I would have rated it a 4 star but there was one big issue especially for tent campers. I don't know about the opposite side of the loop but at Site #2 there was a lot of noise coming from the highway even until 2AM. It seemed that everyone in the area owned a LOUD motorcycle or removed the muffler from their truck/car. I believe the traffic noise was from Highway- O. If you have a RV it would probably not be an issue and I cant speak to the other side of the loop since it is on the other side of the hill. They have tent sites that have tent pads that are on balconies/wood platforms, built into the side of the hill which look out into the forest. Those may be interesting to camp at. Overall while it was a nice well maintained campground, but I would not return, tent camping, due to the traffic noise that ran well into the...
