A CRAZY-WEIRD, BIZARRE, ECCENTRIC, BACK-WOODS, HILLBILLY, RUSTIC, CORNY, SMELLY, COOL PLACE!
Our amazing hosts, Keith and Diane, take great pride in showing off their Hillbilly Wonderland. Keith has a creative, whitty, and comical story behind each and every display throughout this amazing place.
As Keith showed us around, he had a story to everything but I only got about 80% of the jokes behind his creations, while my wife understood about 40%.
As examples, Keith created a giant face on his largest tree with two eyes made of roof air vents, a aluminum chimney for a nose, and a toilet seat for a mouth. He calls it, POTTY MOUTH.
Keith buried a bunch of sinks in the ground and calls them, SINK HOLES.
Keith had a radiator laying on a mattress box spring which he called, Radiator Springs, the home of Lightning MacQueen.
Yes, much of his creations are really corny, but He loves his work and gains great affirmation from your appreciation.
Definitely som old relecs inside his two shops. There were some really OLD toys that I haven't seen since the 70s. Some are much older.
We drove 25 miles out of the way to hit this odd stop, and I'm glad we did. It's definitely a place to remember.
I recommended to Keith that he make placards for each of his creations. Had he not given us the personal tour, or had there been any visitors, we wouldn't know what the heck we were looking at!!
Keith is all over YouTube. Check out my 100+ picks and vids and give a thumbs up for the ones you...
Read moreSo worth a visit! What a place!!! This is one of the coolest places I have been to in a while. Kind of gave me the feel of “Meow Wolf” in New Mexico but in a different style.
Let me start off honestly...I got there and it was overcast and drizzly. It was very creepy. Cool. But creeeeeepy. As soon as I met the awesome owners, the creep-factor was no more. They are so kind and friendly and the story of how the place came to be makes the place even cooler!
I don’t want to share too many photos because I feel like I don’t want to spoil it because you really have to go to take it all in. It’s totally kid friendly, too. It’s outdoors so there is plenty of space for social-distancing, and you only need a mask when you go inside the buildings with all the toys-which I highly recommend!
As they are artists, please consider bringing cash to leave in the “can hand” for donations to help them out. The place is totally free to visit so I imagine it’s appreciated.
Plenty of parking, but do be aware that there are no signs for it so if you miss it, take the time to make a safe turn-around down the road as cars FLY on that road!
Edited to add: after reading some of the other reviews... it’s outside. In nature. Don’t wear your favorite shoes. And if you’re at all familiar with being outside in the summer, there might be...
Read moreThis place is Hillbilly Paradise!
Accidentally hound this place while riding around back roads in KY during a camping trip. This crazy little place was the highlight of the whole trip! The hillbilly folk art was funny, creepy, and interesting. (Be prepared for a LOT of bad puns) The toy collection was astonishing to say the least and the owner Keith informed us that he only has 20% of the collection on display. In addition to all that they have a cool little vintage store on the property that used to be the general store for the area in the 1930s and it still contains many of it's original items. Bonnie and Clyde stayed there, and even left behind a shotgun which is on display.
If you love vintage roadside tourist attractions this place is a must-see. If you love toys or ever played with toys when you were a child, this place is a nostalgic must see. If you dig antiques and cool old history also another must see! Take the drive and go visit this place and make sure to leave a healthy donation, because the owners operate this place strictly out of the genetosity of the visitors hearts. I'd love to see them be able to expand it to the other 80% of the...
