Charcoal Kilns, Clark Co, NV — Attraction in Pahrump

A fantastic find, but with little information about the area and the cell phone reception spotty, it only gets 3/stars. The adventuring part of me loves the rugged path to the Kilns. Be warned; there is a reason people use off-road vehicles on Wheeler Pass after about the 12th mile. My Hyundai Sante-Fe had it rough with bumps, dings, and clangs. Wheeler pass is a great off road route for high clearance vehicles. Several Rocky and narrow areas and at times the direction of the trail can be confusing. Allow yourself 3-4 hours or more if you plan to stop for pictures. Incorporate it with lovel canyon for a good full day trip from Las Vegas. There is no cell service in many places along the pass. I came across the charcoal kilns unexpectedly as I was just out for a car ride. The roads were rutted deeply, but I was able to traverse them in my Volkswagen Tiguan. The Kilns are now fenced off with good reason I’m sure. I wish that information had been posted near the site so one could read about the history of the kilns and their purpose.
