🚨 This might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! 🚨 Did you know you can paddle at the temporary lake in @DeathValleyNPS (unofficially Lake Manly). Badwater Basin is typically a dry salt flat, but it’s submerged in a foot in some areas because of all the extra rain. Get your SUPs, kayaks, or canoes and head to Death Valley for this unique experience. Tips (we called a ranger to ask what is and isn’t allowed): 🚣‍♂️ Don’t park in the main Badwater Basin parking lot. Park on the shoulder near mile marker 18 where the lake is close to the road. 🚣‍♂️ Leave no trace - Avoid stepping in muddy areas where you can leave footprints. 🚣‍♂️ The water is very shallow, so don’t take your watercraft where it can drag. We didn’t put our fins on our SUP bc it would have dragged. 🚣‍♂️ Wear water shoes or tall rain boots. 🚣‍♂️ Bring a towel or something to wipe down your gear. Anything that gets wet will have a layer of salt. 🚣‍♂️ The lake is evaporating. Rangers say it’s lasted longer than expected and predict it will last until April 2024 but may not be deep enough to paddle. 🚣‍♂️ Shooting reflections? Go during sunrise since winds and watercraft activity pick up later in the day. Happy adventuring! there is no better time than now to experience this rare phenomena in Death Valley (badwater basin). Due to the rainfall last year, this temporary lake (Lake Manley) has reoccurred! This has not happened since 2005! We drove to @deathvalleynps just to experience this rare sight! It did not disappoint 🔥 It won’t last long, make plans to visit as soon as you can! The park is also stunning this time of year, and the weather is wonderful! remember to leave no trace 🤍 #deathvalley #nps #nationalparks #roadtrip #travelphotography

Existential experience to walk into the middle of the shallow lake at sunset. There are salt crystal snowflakes floating on the surface creating a sparkle effect. There are no ripples out there so the lake surface is a perfect mirror of surrounding mountains. Bottom of lake is a salt crust giving the waters an aquamarine color during the day. Water is very salty, anything it touches will leave a salty white residue. Once night falls, on the way back, your flashlight will cause reflections on the salt crystal bottom of the lake giving the effect of walking on a pathway of stars. Had an...

It was surreal day. I walked out as far as I could barefoot, and water only came to my knees at the highest point. It was luke warm. To me it was soothing. I kept thinking of the minerals from the lake being absorbed from my feet, hoping some essential nutrient got in. I felt calm and...
