A great day to head out to Paintsville lake for a picnic!!. We planned this day, to spend it with my beautiful sister, her husband Roy, and my dear nephew Garron. And it was so wonderful!!. The weather was perfect when we got there at 2:00 today! Not too windy, not too hot and not too cold. We all bought KFC, plus we brought a dozen of filled doughnuts for a lil dessert. And we all ate probably too much! We laughed, and we just spent those few hours enjoying and soaking in each other's company! It's the little things like this that makes beautiful memories to last a lifetime!. I was surprised that so many people was out there this early in spring. We saw people walking on the blacktop path around the picnic areas, some with their kids, and baby strollers. We saw people out in the water enjoying their day on their paddle boats, pontoons, and house boats. There was a guy that pulled up to the boat ramp, it was him and an elderly man with a cane. He was very careful and cautious with the little elderly man, and it just blessed my heart to see him taking time to spend the day with maybe his dad, or grandpa. We also saw a few people fishing. One guy started catching fish just about as soon as his pole hit the water! I had never seen it happen that quick, in my whole life!! And he was catching them one after another!!. The sheltered picnic tables were already taken when we got there, so we found a table closer to the water. If you want a shelter, you should go earlier than we did! We all need days like this, to spend with our family! I know life gets so busy, but sometimes we need to slow down, and show others that we care enough to make...
Read moreWe stayed 4 nights, checking in on Sunday afternoon and checking out Thursday morning. We arrived early, around 9:00am and were welcomed to park in the Marina area until our campsite opened. The people working the front gate were super friendly and being local to the area they were able to give us great recommendations. This campground has full hookups, water, electric and sewer. If you are tent camping they have extremely nice walk-in sites that are near a very nice bath house. The bathrooms/ showers were very well maintained and clean. They also have a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers, clean and in working order. If you have small children there is a nice playground at the end of the cul de sac. The hiking trails at the visitors center were very well maintain by the local Kiwanis and the Army Corps of Engineers. This park is very well maintained, as is the boat launch and picnic facilites near the marina. This is a very family friendly and budget friendly location to camp. As it is the 1st week in September things are a little slower than in the summer. I wish I could give them 6 STARS. We have been traveling in our RV for the past 3 months, a different location every week, we've seen nice parks but this is one...
Read moreThe campground is nestled in a small holler. It's just 32 spaces, with an additional 10, tent only going up the back end of the campground under trees. There is no type of privacy foliage between campsites, and some are completely surrounded by other sites. The further one goes towards the back of the campground, the narrower the space between sites. The best part is all the sites are full hookups. There is one bathhouse at the rear of the campground, and it was always clean. However, there was never any hand soap on the women's side, and it was empty on the men's the last day we were there. There is a nice playground next to the bathhouse and another in the park itself, which is actually closer to the campsites at the front end. Several campers had dogs, and for the most part, the dogs were leashed and picked up after. There is a nice boat ramp for those who had boats. The lake itself is small, which surprised us by the number of large houseboats anchored at the Marina. The short width of the lake made for an exciting view of a mated pair of Bald Eagles, which according to a local, nest there. If you needed anything or were tired of your own cooking, Paintsville is a short distance away, and far enough so town noise...
