Located in a city-owned park in Garretson, SD, Devil's Gulch is one of America's hidden gems. A tributary of Split Rock Creek has carved out a rather impressive canyon in the Sioux Quartzite rock. It is difficult to convey the wonder of this place--the canyon is deep and narrow, the tributary tiny yet powerful, the rocks almost glisten in the sunlight. You have to see it for yourself.
Beware of the road that leads to the parking lot. If it looks like you might get stuck up ahead, you will. When the road is bad you can still gain access to the gulch by turning into adjacent Split Rock Creek Park. The road here isn't much better, but you should make it. It's not paved, it's mostly a dirt trail It's definitely a site worth stopping by with the family and kids or by yourself!!! They have wonderful staff, very helpful I'd recommend bringing cash to be able to buy lil trinkets !! or to donate to keep it going!:) (very affordable stuff most is $1 or $10 bucks) If you have the time and energy I highly recommend giving it chance!!!

Read moreBeautiful place. I loved listening to the birds that kept flying fast by the gulch. We were able to park our RV without any issue. The staff was friendly. They were OK with us running the generator for a bit. The k ly think I disliked was that we took a hiking trail and it led us to a nearby campground. I wish it said this somewhere along the trail. Then, we went on the trail that led up to the bridge. It was steep, but we did it anyway with our kids. Itthe damn tfain tracks. We had to slide back down mostly on...
