Fort Hamer Park — Attraction in Palmetto

This place used to be full of people on the weekends it was the best hangout spot to drink BBQ swin nd just have a blast now u cant swim there u cant do this cant do that all because they added that rowing bs all the other places the could have done that they do it at the boat ramp nd now they dnt hardly use the dang thing im 40yrs old my father used to hangout there when he was a kid nd so did i as a child nd teen but with all these houses going up like a wild fire we cant go there nd enjoy are self without some old fart calling the cops about someone swinging take ur grumpy butt home or back to the state u came from because all of these people buying houses here the tradition of fishing,crabing swing to the other side nd cook nd just enjoy the country has gone parrish isnt parrish at all anymore its a yuppy town now thats why i moved!! Stop building on every piece of land u see! Nd now there bulding all these house around the only drag strip for 300miles nd if u dnt like drag racing why the hell would buy a house next to a world known drag strip??? This is why drag strip are get shut dwn u have karen nd ken nd there little yuppy kids buy a house not evena mile from the drag strip nd karen nd ken start calling the cops nd then more kens nd karens join in nd then the country starts making up ordinance that the track is violating nd boom the tracks are shut dwn!! For as busy as it can be, it works and flows pretty darn good. The amenities and open space are very nice for a quick visit or picnic. The boat ramp and kayak launch areas are nice. It seems tight at first if you don't already know the flow, but it works once you do. Great access for boaters and plenty to see just paddling around. Parking gets tight at the pavilion, but there is a fair amount in other areas if you don't mind walking a little. The shade and open are is worth it. This time of year has a ton of leaves on the ground still, but it's still a place that the kids can run...

A wonderful park, bring the kids and the in-laws take your boat out on the river! As we were boating last night we had the incredible experience of seeing a pod of wild dolphins with a new baby! We watched quietly floating as they played and interacted with each other coming within feet of the boat! Curious creatures! After they decided to leave and it was safe to move we were on cloud nine and were glad we found this park and the boat ramp! We will be back...
