Lunada Canyan Trail is a pretty good beginner/intermediate hike, with a short but slightly steep portion that makes it fun and a little challenging. Great views of canyon and ocean. Generally quiet and clean, but some dog droppings here and there to watch out for. Tips: 1.recommend wearing hiking shoes for the steep portion, especially when coming back down. 2. Plenty of street parking at the trail head, but there is no clear sign at the base 3. Take a brief detour before the trail to the dry water bank 4. About .75 miles up, it connects with the Aqua Amarga Trail

I grew up on Via de la Guerra and this was a playland for us. There was a bone mine (a small cave that we dug in to find animal skulls) and the mica mine, which was at the foot of a small cliff that would yield mica slabs in between the sedimentary rock.
