After driving through miles of flat land I was delighted by the difference presented by the rolling and heavily wooded hills of this small gem of a state park. I spent two days in a very nice two-bedroom one-bath cabin and three days in an exceptionally spacious two-bedroom two-bath cabin on the lake. The cabin was well appointed with all the comforts of home, a complete range of up to date appliances, a grill outside the cabin, and a fire pit where we roasted marshmallows. The cabins are all very reasonably priced. There are various hiking trails, a path around one of the lakes, another lake with paddle boats for $7 an hour and a staff that really gives a damn. You can also get a fishing license for one three or five days online. The three day license, tax included, cost $16. The Larado Grocery & Grill is down the road a couple of miles, has won an award for best burger in Arkansas for the last 2 years, and is...

I would think this is a hidden gem of an Arkansas state park. The park overall is very nice. It has two lakes with one for fishing and boat rental. The other has a swimming area with a killer pavilion overlooking the lake. This lake also has a very nice walking area around the lake that is wheelchair friendly. There are some hiking trails with one having a swinging bridge. Camping is rather small with just a few tent only sites. Trailer sites are nice but some are very close to each other so look at that before booking. One other thing, the roads are narrow so you might actually think you going down a one way road when you are not. This may be a park to look into for a...
Read moreBeautiful, well kept state park. We stayed for 3 nights in one of the state park cabins. The cabins had everything that we needed including wifi and the all important coffee snd coffee maker! All staff that we encountered were very helpful. They even offered to help me catch my dog that darted out the door. The biggest problem we had were the mosquitos around the front of the cabin. There is a drain that holds water and attracts them. When you open the door they fly in. We started using the back door and it helped a lot. We were able to enjoy our deck with Off and our Citronella candle. It was hot, but the a/c was awesome! We enjoyed the hiking trails and exploring the surrounding area. There is a small lake with a very nice splash park for children that is open until 7:30 at night. There was also...
