It started as a fun camping trip with some friends. A quick call made making sure everyone was packed and ready to go. But, not everyone was packed. There was one who forgot everything. As we drove up the mountain he suddenly remembered and came to a sudden stop. We quickly turned around and hurried back home.
At this point we were late. He hurried and packed and we rushed back to the lake.
We were late, the sun was starting to set and it was a mile hike up. We rushed up the trail as it started to snow. We didn't make it to the lake. The sun had set, the snow was deep, we were stuck.
We walked into the Forrest and picked a spot to camp. Digging a hole in the snow for the tent, digging a hole in the snow for a fire we were cold and alone, Or at least we thought.
We huddled around the fire trying to keep warm, swapping stories, and laughing the cold off, it got late.
We all hurried into the tent waiting for the morning. 10 minutes laying down we heard a sound that paralyzed us. Howling. We didn't make a sound and listened to the distance sound as it came closer and closer. Soon the howling seemed just hundreds of yards away. No one slept. It seemed an eternity before we saw the faithful sun rise. But it rose, w head made it through the night. Safely we packed up the camp, covered the fire pit with dirt and snow and left the place as if we were never there.
You will never forget fear. Fest drives us and makes us the best people we can be. Hope drives us and makes us the best people we can be, but there is no hope without fear and no fest without hope. We had hoped the night would end and feared the howling we had heard. A night to remind us if our faith.

Read moreScore! I've been looking for some backpacking spots to do some camping this year and found this lake. I decided to take a hike and scout out the area before I go camping and it looks great. The lake is beautiful with the aspen trees reflection on it! I walked around the left side of the lake and found 4 or 5 camp sites easily. Tent impressions and fire pit included! I'm super excited to go backpacking here soon.
As a hike it's great as well! The lake is only 1 mile in from the trail head but as other reviewers have mentioned it's pretty steep almost the entire hike.. then again it's only 1 mile. It's neither a short mile nor a long mile but feels just like 1 mile should. All ages were on this hike. I saw groups of kids and at times some mothers who were carrying their children up the trail. So it appears this hike is for everyone.
I decided on 4 stars simply because it was so short and I would have like to...
Read moreGreat beginner backpacking trail. Trail is uphill but short. Very manageable. I didn't see any fish, just looks like a grassy pond with ducks on it. Moose like to come to the water. Lots of wildflowers this time of year
Plenty of people come up to hike or camp on the weekend, so you won't be alone most likely. There's a small trail at the north end of the loop that will take you up to dry lake if you want to go exploring.
Bring bug spray, there was a lot of flies...
