Alamo lake is a very desolate lake, it is 43 miles from the nearest town. Get everything you need before heading out there. The ranger station or pay station has some items for fishing or a few essentials but very limited. There is a bar/restaurant called Wayside, it’s a small Rv park with this bar. Lots of people come here with their side by sides. Tons of trails out here for that. We ate lunch there and grabbed a t shirt. The food was decent. They have a few essentials as well. The campground itself is clean and neat. It is out dated and could use a make over. This is not a place to come with your Rv and hang out at your site. This is a fisherman’s paradise, it’s claim is that they have the best bass fishing in the state. We seen many anglers and they were catching fish. They have a nice fish cleaning set up there and it was being used quite a bit. Our spot had a picnic table at it and it was kind of blah. Up top to the north camp loop had some good spots with lots of views of the lake. These spots were as well not that impressive. I think they only had power and electric, you would have to dump at the dump station for sewer. They do have a few cabins you could rent to the west camp ground loop. They looked nice as well. At our spot we did have full hook ups with sewer. We were space 16 I believe. The concrete pad was not level and I needed 3 wheel blocks per wheel (6 leveling blocks)on one side to level out. We kayaked and had easy assess to the water. It was a great time on the water kayaking. The wind did pick up and we fought that a bit but the lake itself is beautiful with the mountains all around. We drove up to the dam and sat up top and to get a good view. There are some history boards there that gave a history of the lake. There are donkeys all over the place. The most donkeys I have ever seen at a AZ lake! Beware when driving in to the lake. The night sky will knock your socks off with all the stars. I cannot remember when we seen so many stars! Millions of them!!! The sky was so dark and there are so many stars you honestly can get lost looking up with amazement. Glad we came here but probably would not go back unless I wanted to fish and see the stars. If that is your thing then this is the place to go. Tons of fisher men. The guys next to us were canoeing to the east side of the lake for duck hunting as well. They said there were some good...
Read moreLovely lake. The views were terrific. Multiple camp spots from RV, to cabin to tent. The one we had was terrific. We had a little promontory that went off our campsite and looked down to the lake. Below is where all of the wild burros (and there were a ton of them) would get water throughout the day and night. The burros wander throughout the campgrounds so watch out. There are portable potties within walking distance of all of the campsites. There were portable trashcans also (brown wheeled ones) and recycle bins also. Made it super easy keeping the camp clean. There are no trees so this is in our opinion a spring, fall, winter camp. The beginning of May was a bit hot for us. Full disclosure we did tent camp. The tent camp site came with a table, which you could move about, and a fire ring. We used both. There was plenty of room for two tents (a four person and child tent), the truck, a pop-up awning, chairs, etc. We pick this lake for fishing but didn't realize that it truly is a boating lake. The only spot we could see that you are able to get to to fish was below our camp. Down a gentle slop, that the burros used almost daily, to the lake bed. Pretty but flies and bees so not suitable. You really need some sort of water transportation to enjoy this lake to it's fullest. The park rangers are great. There is a little store just down the road with basic food stuff, firewood, ice, cold drinks and souvenirs. They also offer the Junior Ranger program and we love doing that. Over all a...
Read moreThis is on the low end in terms of quality and amenities for an AZ state park. Generally they take care of landscaping and janitorial, but landscaping here is a little off. And general maintenance here seems more lacking than other parks. Lights that don't work, broken locks, damaged signs not replaced, broken drinking fountain. And some repairs show signs of lack of technical expertise and skill. This place is all about boating and ATV's. There is nothing else to do. No trails. Most camp loops don't even have a water spigot. Place is very unsafe, no police presence or enforcement rangers. No patrols. Sheriffs office is over 90 minutes drive. The store has nothing fresh, no milk or eggs. Nearest store is an hour and forty five minutes drive one way. Water here is bad, tastes funny, and clogged my filters. Lake and mountains are pretty, and we did see a herd of wild burrows. But I don't see ever...
