Last time I stopped by this location to camp, I was mortified. It was a sticky, slimy, overgrown bog full of mosquitoes, So I left. Last night's camping trip was a huge turnaround. The park was clean, the air was fresh and the views (outside of site 1) were amazing. It'll be even better when the bathhouse re-opens. There was so much more than I had expected here such as a tether ball set-up and an archery range. Even got introduced to a Screeching Owl upon check-in. My next visit I'll definitely be exploring the backcountry trail and hopefully it will be more impressive than the trail at Spring Creek. When I hit that particular blue marked trail I was looking forward to a "woodsy" stroll and was met by a over-narrow path full of spider webs and thorns that headed directly after the campsite and ended literally right up the paved pathway from the site. Running almost parallel to the driving path. I will honestly say I was highly impressed by the upkeep of the park itself. Every trash can was empty and freshly bagged even the PortaJohns were cleaner than most and...

Stayed 3 nights and was evacuated this time, even tho the water is still up. I spoke to a park worker (lady mowing) and let her know I'm so thankful for how hard they work to help make the park beautiful. The park Rangers are very helpful. I needed to have my truck jumped and he came immediately and helped me out. Question are always answered and for that I'm grateful. I would like to see the one side become tent camping only. The people in #9 ran a generator for there 20+ foot camper. (Along with 5 dogs). This noise wasn't pleasant to listen to at night or 530 a.m. (I didn't say anything, I'm not that person, but making a recommendation here). I was lucky to get the "Hot spot" and throughly enjoyed it. (Thanks office worker). I arrived and my spot was taken. I accidentally had put in the wrong month. Easy fix and office was so helpful. Haven't caught fish yet hoping that this will change. I have noticed no boaters fish the lake. Makes me wonder. I had a 24 hour period entirely to myself. It was heaven! Thank you again for a beautiful place with...

The GOOD

Pretty state park with wooded ridges rising above the TN River Despite its relatively small size there is a fair amount to do, including hiking, fishing, boat ramp, improved campground, primitive lakefront campground, and backcountry campsites. Improved campground wasn’t very busy when we were there, so it was pretty quiet, shaded, and had a nice breeze due to being on top of a high ridge. Park staff were super nice and friendly, and the park was kept clean

The BAD

This park isn’t setup great for bigger campers. There are sharp turns with hills that made maneuverability a bit of an issue for our 34ft fifth wheel. The dump station was also setup weird with a steep hill and turns. Hwy 438 leading to the park had several low hanging branches over the 2 lane road

OVERALL We really did enjoy our stay, but this one probably won’t be high on our list to get back to. That’s not meant to be a knock on this park, but it’s not really easy to get to and the maneuverability issues would make other parks in the region...

My stay was in August of 2017 and I'm long overdue to write a review of this beautiful and well-maintained park. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the park has some great amenities. The terrain includes plenty of hills and will give you a workout if you decide to walk or hike much, but those features add to the scenery. Because of the location, it's very quiet here and cell service is only reliable from higher elevations within the park. Perryville is a small town a few minutes drive from the park if you need groceries, supplies or a bite to eat. The Cedar Grove Iron Furnace is Civil War era landmark about 12 miles from the park and makes for an interesting day-trip down some winding backroads. After only one stay, Mousetail Landing is on my list of favorite spots for a quiet getaway.
