As of today we were members here for 7 years starting when we got married on the property. I kept holding on because of the nostalgia and was ignoring some of the blatant negatives every time we came in in the last year.
Brought friends to come taste and also to pick up our wine, the individual helping us did a complete attitude turn around when he realized we were already members because "he couldn't sell us anything now" and the rest of the tasting was just awkward and rushed through by him.
A few times after we have come for special events and they always end up being wine events with religious, political tangents by the stage hosts (as well as some very off color religious/racially based humour). Every event seems to be slowly turning more into a religious/political event rather than a wine event, especially considering the politically affiliated flags on the hill when you're exiting the property.
Again I kept holding on to our membership because of the nostalgia, our history with the property, we enjoyed the wine and seeing the property constantly growing, and also because of our own belief that people are welcome to their own beliefs and opinions. But it no longer feels like a welcoming environment. With all this I was still on the fence about cancelling but then the attendant didn't even bat an eye or even ask why we were cancelling after all these years, I realized it had to be done. The love of the members is gone. I've worked at wineries, all members are valuable but when a long term member cancels you should at least note a why, even if it doesn't change how you do business.
Also to clarify, 4th of July was our final visit and the final reason for our cancelling of our membership. Patriotism is to be expected on this holiday but not a full blown sermon laced with political and religious tangents. We'd experienced it on previous visits but 4th of July was all of our previous experiences in the past combined together and...
Read moreI’ve been there yesterday and let me say that it was not what I expected. Usually, when you go wine tasting ( I do this all the time) you get a sommelier for each group (It was just me and my friend), our designated sommelier was serving two groups 10% of the time with us, and 90% with the group of four next to us. Sad. First of all, from the moment we got there they told us to check in at 1 PM we were there earlier we waited like 25 minutes after 1 to get check-in, and, in the meantime, we waited outside to make time. We realize that this is more like a senior citizen's retirement hangout and family oriented (children on the loose). A gentleman was singing outdoors he was pretty good actually. However, I do not recommend it for people in their 30s 40s, or newly wed couples. Back to our Sommelier, every time he poured a glass of wine, he will leave us by ourselves for a long time. We had many questions about the wine, plus he supposed to change the glass every time we got a sample. We had to rinse it with water and keep using the same glass. After we finished with each sample he would briefly talk and then he will just disappear. We were shocked that he couldn’t even put a glass of water next to us, we had to go back in the car and find water which make us realize that we were at the wrong place. For the wine quality I will give it two stars for the service if I could get below one star I would. Overall experience find a nice spot where they have pros, provide great quality wine and excellent service. Like Tablas you won’t...
Read moreMy wife and I have been a member of Sculpterra Winery for about one year. We joined because the winery is absolutely beautiful, the staff are always polite and the wine is good. We vacationed in Paso Robles during the week of April 12 and decided to attend our first music event at the winery, on Saturday, April 17. There was a self proclaimed musician/songwriter by the name of Steve Key performing. Pretty much I ignored the music because he is a horrible singer. He spends much of his time rambling on the microphone, rather than singing, which was probably a good thing. One of Steve Key's songs caught my attention. He sang about people from Fresno and Bakersfield, and how we make his life "Hell". I listened carefully to the lyrics of this song, which he is proud to say he wrote, and I was extremely offended. I spent the remainder of the event, angry!! I spoke to the manager, who was very polite and expressed my dissatisfaction. The manager recommended that I come back the next day, when they have a "Better Band". My wife and I had already planned to attend the Sunday event. After considering how unpleasant the Saturday event was, we decided to change our plans and not attend. I'm happy that the economy is doing so well in Paso Robles, that tourists from Fresno and Bakersfield are not welcome. I for one, plan on making Mr. Key's life better and vacation...
