Amazing place just an hour away from Charlotte, really white sand with telescopic tall pine trees. Amazing hiking traikes. No camping but you can camp in Whiteland recreation area. Scattered campsites with shelters and fire rings. Not sure if it is easy drivable after rain. You may need 4 wheel drive there. Park has 9 miles scenic drive.

This is an amazing wildlife refuge! Just over an hour southeast of Charlotte, the refuge covers 45,000 acres of longleaf pine forest, pine savanna, and wetland habitat. Great place to spend a day away from the city and even better if you love birding or fishing. Can’t wait to visit again!

Got flat tire during visiting the park. It was a brand new screw with a notch to leak the air quickly. There is no any contraction going on near area. Stay on the pavement road only!

I've never done much wildlife photography. I would like to someday, but for the most part, I am simply too impatient. The wanderlust sets in and before I know it I have missed a great shot. That is exactly the misfortune I experienced here. Right as I was moving to set up at a new spot, I saw a white-tailed deer jump right where I had been moments before.

All around I really liked the refuge and I think it is an awesome place to go for a variety of reasons. You can enjoy fishing, hunting, or wildlife viewing. Maybe you'll go hiking or to bird watch. Whatever your reasons I am certain you will have a pleasant time. Just don't get...

Beautiful place but horrible communication. Me and my wife went 3 different ways trying to get out just for them all to be locked!!! Trees down in the middle of the main roads. Horrible experience. Still trying to find a way out. (Not joking) starting to feel like I'm on the survivor show but with no cast help.

Update: 4 locked gates. 2 broken trees later we finally found the way we came. Naked and afraid never showed up though but now that I know we are survivors it was a...

I love natural areas and this certainly qualifies. This is located in the sand country between the Piedmont and coastal environments . There are prickly pear, oak and long leaf pine with lots of sand. There are fishing pools and lakes with hunting fields as well. We observed a coyote and a beaver. The ranger office is a great source of information with very accommodating personnel. There are...
