Beautiful views of the lakes along the shoreline. Several side trails leading to the water with beautiful pebble beaches and stones lined shoreline ( one beach was sandy but had some algae all had great views of the lake.) The trail could use garbages in the parking lot and by beaches. For the most part it is clean and well maintained along the walking paths and well marked with blue all throughout to help keep you on path. There’s no bathrooms and the trail is popular so we had to wait for someone to return to be able to park. It is a well shaded walk throughout and is approximately 2.5 miles to walk the blue loop all the way around (parts of it are uphill) so it’s good for hikes on sunny or hot days. I recommend starting the trail opposite the two boulders side end of the parking lot and walking out by the two boulders as that make for an easier hike. Fairly dog friendly but they could use garbage cans here because the beaches were full of garbage. Some trash cans by the parking lot and by the beach entrances would really...
Read moreI recently hiked the Shuman Point Hiking Trail at Lake Wallenpaupack, and it was a solid experience. The three-mile trail took me just over an hour, offering nice lake views, especially from the rocky beaches where you can get close to the water.
I recommended starting the loop on the right side of the parking area (when your back is to the road). This gets the harder, steeper portion of the trail out of the way first. Halfway through you will see old stone walls from the former farms, predating the lake. You can also see the hydroelectric dam from a couple spots along the trail. The trail itself is rocky and root-filled.
The noise from cars and boats was a bit distracting, and there is some trash on the beaches. On a cooler note, I spotted a snake and some ducks along the way.
There are 12-15 parking spots available depending on how close or far people park from each other. Overall, it’s a nice hike with beautiful views, despite some minor...
Read moreEarly June hike with the 6 year old. Really nice 3 mile long loop trail located near Hawley/Woodloch Resort. Dense woodland, lots of ferns, a few mushrooms and some newt/salamanders. The lake comes right up to the tree line along the trail so there is no beach area or large opening. There is some elevation change throughout and the trail is stable to unstable footing. Bring mud/waterproof shoes or boots on this one though. Many springs flood the trail at various points and it's inevitable your feet will get muddy or wet. It took us a little over 2 hours (due to the wet areas) and we stopped for a sandwich break halfway. Easily accessible from the main road with a good...
