June 12 - June 14, 2020. This is the 2nd overland trip for Los Winkles that included multi-nights stay with minimal gear. We took the new 4Runner. We had originally planed on staying at a campsite behind the Mogollon Rim Visitors Center on FR171 but by the time we got there on Friday all the camps were taken. We ended up looking for a place to stay on the trails south on Young Road.
I switched into 4H while off the main R’s but didn’t need it. It did provide some extra traction on some of the unpaved, washboard roads. We forgot the sleeping bags and didn’t have a good cook table. We definitely had to get creative. We are lucky that it wasn’t that cold.
We took the 260 up through Payson, stayed for a few nights and took Young Road back through Miami-Globe. The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests is a national forest is pretty awesome. I would definitely recommend taking Young Rd.
This camp site was nice and quiet. People cruised up and down the road on ATV’s for the most part. The kids (1 and 4) could run around with minimal worry about danger. We had some friends come visit us for a day outing and it was nice.
I would recommend this location for an easy drive and...
Read moreWow! After camping at our favorite camping site, Aspen camp grounds, the last evening they had an amazing group gathering, an hour of educating the families on forest safety, fire safety, wild life safety! So NO FEEDING WILD LIFE! It messes with the circle of life!
Well, we stopped by on the way back home and stopped at the visitors center where our little gal a proud girl Scout wanted to be swan in to receive a forest safety certification and badge! Momma and Dadda so proud and we had a little refresher course to. 😊👉💯🌅
It’s more than moments and memories on this one, it’s education to our younger generation, and a reminder to us adults, life is a balance, be the peace the world deserves and enjoy the peace while you share and educate others!
What’s your “ Planet 🌎 B”
Thank you to all that work at this amazing visitors center and the other forestry service workers working so hard to keep our planet, clean and healthy. Our family truly appreciates you all and enjoys every opportunity to go camping with Mother Nature and tries to always help out. Don’t stop being an ambassador to Mother Nature, she’s...
Read moreI stopped in to grab souvenirs. I was a little disappointed with the small selection of stickers. I always stop by visitor centers and grab some for the coolers and to see what maps they have. The price of the stickers went up from $3 to $5. I ended up buying a few and an Arizona Recreational Map. The lady said they were the last of the stickers so I'm guessing they're either getting rid of them or getting new designs. I should've asked further but I didn't. They did have some other items available that I wasn't interested in but, it's worth stopping in for a quick look. It's an easy off/on exit and they even have bathrooms. The staff was very friendly and informational. I had a good talk with them about kayaking some Arizona Lakes. They are always willing to share information with you. I wanted to give 4 stars for the limited supply of souvenirs but the friendly staff makes it 5 stars. Stop in, you might find out about a place you never heard of and want to visit. Have fun. Please rate my review, I do this for you...
