My family of 6 came from California to stay in Payson for a week. See spring trail was one of the top picks for us to go see due to the reviews and pictures people had posted. Although it's beautiful to be in nature as it is, the fact that I expected to see certain things and didn't was kind of a bummer. Nothing looked like the pictures at all. Mind you, I know the pics are not all taken of the same season/time I went. When I went it was snowing so understandably, I knew things might be a little different but on the pictures for see spring trail it shows that I would encounter a larger creek opening with a mini waterfall, just something nice to picture, however I followed the all trails map all the way up and ended in a random spot and hiked back down. It was a very nice hike but definitely thought I'd end the hike somewhere a little cooler since my kids thugged it out all the way up. I did see wild turkeys though! That was very cool. Overall great hike, nice pines everywhere. Trail was marked overall pretty well except one spot where you aren't aware you have to cross to the other side to continue the trail. We had plastic bags so I tied 2 markers on the trees for other hikers to follow and blocked off a tree area with a large branch to indicate to not go that way. Most likely due to a natural changes in the terrain throughout the seasons. We did hear some noises around us and in the bushes so definitely make sure you have something or a few somethings to keep you safe if you were to encounter a scary situation between you...
Read moreThe trail head is about a mile off a dirt road. There is a restroom located at the trail head and the trail wasn’t busy on a Tuesday. I read that there isn’t much traffic at this trail and I hope that is true for the weekends. We ran into a couple groups in the beginning but there was only one person that went to the rim that we ran into. It made it a nice hike with no traffic. As far as the trail to the rim you can tell it isn’t heavily used. Many sections were hard to follow but if you are experienced you should be fine. There are some sections that are an easy path but many that require stepping over rocks and fallen trees. I would say 70% of the trail is shaded. There are areas with the AZ sun beaming down and it might be hard to climb inclines for some people. We went at the beginning of October and you could see the leaves changing. The creek is a plus but you are not going to see much of it during the hike at least at this time of season. You cross it twice on the 3 mile trail. You can see the creek at the very beginning with is nice good people not looking for...
Read moreWent to Christopher Creek and hiked this trail yesterday. I really enjoyed the hiking trail and all the falls colors that are there. It was kinda cold so I wished I bought a warmer coat. It was so peaceful and quiet like I had the whole forest and trail to myself. I took a lot of pictures of all the fall colors on this trail. The way to this trail is mostly dirt road except for the road from Christopher Creek lead to this dirt road. So I recommended you be careful after it has rained because there will be lots of mud and lots of holes on the dirt road. I recommend this trail to anybody who enjoys nature and like to take pictures of nature. It was one of the best places I've been for fall colors and to take fall...
