The Beaver Head Light is located high on a bluff on the southern tip of Beaver Island. Boats trying to navigate North on Lake Michigan need to carefully work their way between Beaver Island and Gray's Reef. The 46-foot cylindrical tower was built in 1858, to replace an 1852 tower.

An interesting park like setting with numerous old buildings to explore. Most were closed for the season but highly recommend the walk to the Lake Michigan shoreline. The lighthouse tower is wide open to visitors and the climb to the top does offer some nice views. But be aware, the stairs are circular, very narrow, no guard railing on the inside of the curve, and getting into the upper deck where the lens once sat means crawling through a tiny hatch. Not a journey for those with a sense of vertigo; and somewhat frightening even for...

I love a good light house and this one is great. It’s a rather important piece of Great Lakes and American history, quite interesting. There was no one else in the area, whether that was because of the weather or its location, either way it was nice. The tower is open to the public but the keeper’s house is under construction. If you can visit, I think it’s a great place...
