A Must-See Marvel in Iowa City!
We drove all the way from Michigan just to see the World's Largest Wooden Nickel, and it was absolutely worth it!!! Standing at a jaw-dropping 16 feet in diameter and weighing around 4,000 pounds, it left me completely speechless. You really can't appreciate the scale until you're standing in front of it. It’s not just a quirky roadside attraction—it’s a bold piece of protest art with a fascinating backstory.
The craftsmanship is impressive, and the buffalo design carved into the wood is a beautiful touch. It’s mounted between two telephone poles in a horse pasture just off Dubuque Street NE, and once you spot it, you’ll definitely want to loop back for a closer look.

Parking is limited, and there’s no official lot. You can pull off the road safely in a few spots, but be very careful—it's a busy area. Do NOT park in private driveways nearby. Respect the locals and the space. If you want a safer option, park at Waterworks Prairie Park and walk the trail to the nickel.
