My favorite trail in the area. This almost 7 mile, out and back trail, begins at Camp Wokanda and ends at Detweiler Park. Jumping on at Robinson Park is also an option and cuts off about 2+ miles from the trail's length. This trail has rolling hills, with a few of them being fairly steep. We have used this as a training trail for our hikes in the Appalachian Trail. A fun option for us has been to start at Detweiler, hike to Camp Wokanda, camp there for the night, and then hike back to Detweiler in the morning. Reservations are required through the Peoria Park District for camping at Camp Wokanda, buy they have cabins as well as places to pitch a tent. Water is available seasonally at Detweiler, Robinson, and Camp Wokanda. Drinking from the creeks in the area is not advised.

Park at Robinson Park on Mossville Rd. Head north (left) toward Camp Waconda. Trail is a moderate, out-and- back, around 5 miles, if you go under the highway a few tenths. We enjoyed the thick canopy, narrow paths, elevation changes, and dirt footing (not rooty and rocks). Really good trail. 🙌👍

Great trail! Entered at Camp Wokanda trailhead. Nice, rugged trails. Unpaved, but clear. Plenty of uphill and downhill. Sometimes with steps, but sometimes just the hill. Several benches if you need to recover. Beautiful woodlands to see. Especially in the fall.

The Illinois River Bluff Trail runs 6.9 miles north of Peoria from Camp Wakonda in the north to Detweiller Park in the south. There is parking access at the end points and at Camp Green Valley, Robinson Park North and Robinson Park South, allowing a hike to be broken up into smaller sections. It features woodland hiking paths with hills, some 125 feet high. Mileage markers start at Wakonda. The park district and scout projects have added foot bridges, benches and stairs. There are restrooms at the end points and at Camp Green Valley, although they may be open only during the summer. Camp Wakonda is a scout camp with various buildings. Also there is a maple syrup collection system that goes over the trail. Camp Green Valley is a former Salvation Army camp with some structures still in place. A tunnel goes...

This place is nice and quiet has about three spots to 🐟, one spot is a sandbank (no shade) very wide and open, one by a wooden bench, and another one where you can walk out onto a small pier and cast. There are fish in the spot but definitely takes patience here. Bunch of wooden stairs so get ready for a...
