We went for the 50th anniversary of the Little House show. The wayside cabin was great and the interpreters were super friendly and informative.

The museum itself was a letdown, particularly because of whom I presume to be the manager of the museum. She was a blonde heavier set woman who behaved very erratically and was short with her staff, belittling them in front of other guests. She showed no remorse when people looked up at her - raising her voice, throwing her hands up, and speaking condescendingly to her staff. Seeing this made it uncomfortable. Despite this, the museum itself was not well done and did little to honor the Little House series. The behavior of the manager went against everything that Little House stood for and put a damper on things. She...

I had a great time visiting this Museum on beautiful Lake Pepin. It's filled with artifacts and displays that help you understand what life was like when Laura Ingalls Wilder was alive. In some of the displays they set up a scene to resemble a passage from one of the books and it really comes to life as you read the passage. We had little ones in our group who loved playing in the River boat recreation that was set up for children. One of my favorite spots was seeing the recreation of a kitchen from back in the day. There was a "dry sink" which showed how they managed before indoor plumbing. There are many other great things to see and the staff is super friendly and helpful. It's definitely worth the...

This is a small museum, nothing fancy, but a delightful stop for me as I am a lifelong fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder. The parking situation is somewhat precarious, as the lot is small and requires backing onto what can be a fairly busy highway. You enter into the gift shop, which has all kinds of pioneer apparel, decorative and household items, and books. I was happy to find a penny smasher machine. After paying for entrance, guests can explore two sides of the building. One is focused on Laura Ingalls Wilder and includes family artifacts or related items along with quotes from the books. On the other side are rooms with exhibits that focus on the history of Lake Pepin, including several tragedies that've...

I've been a huge fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder since childhood, so I really enjoyed this visit. My husband never read her books but still enjoyed learning about pioneer life. There are relatively few artifacts from Laura and her immediately family. Pictured here are a quilt she owned as an adult and a letter written by her sister Mary, which I found fascinating. There is information on her family, her first teacher here, and the region. It was a bit of a hodge podge--could be organized and displayed better to tell a clearer story.
