We visited the park to support Addison Bethea's tribute following her devastating shark attack and loss of leg. It was astonishing to see the outpouring of support in the community of Perry, Taylor County, Florida. Very touching the amount of support that came from so many coming from near and far to be there. There was a lot of money was raised to help in her mounting recovery costs. The live music was fantastic, great vendor's offering quality goods and delicious food. A motorcycle ride allowed many to participate as well. Although it was a very hot day, my husband and I were thrilled to be a part of this event. The only drawback were the Porta potties which were not very clean and felt like a sauna inside. The park and museum are on the grounds of the Technological College and they offer RV parking with hookups. I'd love to see more events on these grounds in the future and to support other RV travelers to...
Read moreVery disappointed today when I visited the park. It's usually very well kept, I frequent it often & meet friends there as they are traveling thru Perry. The last several times I've been there, the bathrooms have been "out of order" & the park has been overgrown with weeds, poison ivy or oak, limbs and debris everywhere. It needs mowing badly. There's dirty diapers & trash next to the bathrooms. You would think with a job fair there today the park would have been made more presentable to the public. The park is technically "closed" on Tuesday & Wednesday, but the overgrowth didn’t happen overnight. It just doesn't give people traveling thru a good impression, it's a State park, if it's unable to be maintained by the State, the County should see that necessary repairs and maintenance are done on a...
Read moreIt was open 8/1/20, and worth the trip. During CoVid, call to check times it’s open. Masks were required inside. The $2 each was a small price to pay for a big adventure. Joe, who was masked, took our admission fees. He was friendly and shared a lot of information with us. We also took a map of the museum and a map for the Cracker House, which Joe told us was built in 1860s - original house except for roof.
We only had 30 minutes to look around the museum and house. In the museum, we read as many of the informative displays as we could. We enjoyed the exhibits with stuffed animals and signs identifying them. Outside, we toured all of the house’s rooms and buildings. Beautiful and well created!
This is a perfect place to take the family, to learn about FL history, and be proud...
