Wild Wings Ski Touring Center — Attraction in Peru

What a wonderful place. Everyone here is super friendly and relaxed. It is quaint and away from the buzz of places like Stratton, so one can enjoy nature and almost feel like there is nobody else around. I came with my husband and my six year old daughter. The first day we came we tried out snow shoeing, which was fun and an easy way to explore the surroundings a bit. We are beginners in cross country skiing and had a private lesson with Hillary to start with. she couldn’t have been more friendly, helpful and encouraging. Afterwards we tried our luck at one of the easy loops by ourselves and all enjoyed it. We came back for a second day today and were all pleased with our improvements. I came here cause I was in the area while I had a craving to ski. It was $20 for the half day (after 1pm) and I had access to all the trails. They have a good map, and the trails were beautifully groomed. The only problem I could think of is that the trails aren't well-labeled. I found myself on a tiny black diamond portion of a trail that wasn't labeled on the map. As a newer XC skier, I found this problematic. Hopefully, they can go out there and add some new signage! *the green (easier) trails have a bunch of signs that says "exit to ski center" which was nice. I’ve been cross country skiing since the 1970’s and skied many a trail that was there just because it was easy and convienient to include it in a trail system and not because it made a good ski trail. This is not true at Wild Wings. Their trails are deliberately designed for great skiing, are one way so you never have to worry about oncoming traffic and are just plain fun! Still that’s not enough to make a great skii touring center. That takes snow! Wild Wings takes their grooming very seriously and really makes the most of even the smallest snowfalls.
