Black-Coffey Caverns should be on the top of everyone’s list if you are anywhere near this area! I really can’t say enough about the people who work here from Steph, who I contacted a few weeks before our visit, she quickly made arrangements to accommodate my group on Labor Day weekend to our cavern tour guide, who expertly guided a large group of people (in addition to mine, several other parties that included small children), up and down several flights of stairs, through passageways, all while explaining the history of and pointing out all the features of the cavern. He had the patience of Saint, especially a bunch of photographers taking photos of everything, he also found a spot in the cave and then offered to take group photos of everyone on the tour, plus calmed someone having claustrophobia. The cavern is awesome! but it wouldn’t have been as great without the incredible staff who are dedicated to opening it to the public to see. If you go, PLEASE LEAVE THEM A DONATION, I can’t believe that they offer these...
Read moreThis was great. A family friendly relaxed tour of a delightful cave. The guides were informative with the history and past experiences within the two caves. Unlike some other caves I've been to, Black-Coffey was not stringent with staying ONLY where they wanted to lead you. There were some safe offshoot caves that they encouraged you to check out. I am not sure if this was based on the small (6 visitors in the party), but I suspect it is a common occurrence. For about 95% of the time the floors were easily walked on with just a couple three spots that needed you to walk carefully. What was most agreeable about the visit, again may have been based on date/time, was the was not rush. Even with a tour guide in front and back, it never felt like we were being herded. Rather the guides just waited for the detours and goodly amount of photos that were taken by all of the visitors. We WILL be taking family back on their next visit. Delightful, off the beaten...
Read moreI’ve been on A LOT of cavern tours in my time, but have truly never enjoyed one as much this. I appreciated that it was VERY kid-friendly, and I wish I could remember the name of tour guide because he was absolutely INCREDIBLE. I have no doubt that he is the biggest reason why our time at Black Coffey Caverns was so enjoyable!
Some of my favorite things included:
-The small/personable group size.
-The history lesson that we received was the perfect length. It included some very important details without being lengthy and boring for my 3.5 year old.
-The tour guide was laid back, personable, knowledgeable, and very down-to-earth. He gave us so much freedom, while still giving us a safe/structured tour.
-You pay by donation.
-You can touch the formations.
-There are no lights except for what you take down into the cave with you.
10/10...
